have been surfing other forums and am registered with a couple that are really good, plenty of intelligent lively debates and non-racist humour!
then i revisit the gumtree and suprise surprise, it is still the same old suspects coming out with the same old crap!
taking a look at the registration dates of those taking part very few are newcomers, and those that are will probably get sick and tired of the cosy little clique of racist neanderthals that run this forum.
of course if this thread were titled 'how to bash muslims' or 'look how big my tits are' then there would be an overwhelming response.
quite frankly i think it is a disgrace considering that despite the age limit kids will most definitely be surfing this forum!
am glad to see however that other forums do regulate 'threads' and 'replies' without detracting from the participators enjoyment. |

- the girl just wanted some advice on how to deal with her neighbours, FFS - so I do get what you mean, I really do, but I also think there has to be a place where adults can be adults - I think all porn related stuff should be confined to the partners & relationships section - as that ties in with the classifieds section where "casual relationships" sex is freely offered.

I totally agree... racism shouldn't have a place in our society never mind on an open forum like this, sadly it does. It shows a distinct lack of education in my opinion. I'm all for open minds and freedom of speech but education is the key... kids aren't born racist!  |

Yep, but the beauty of a forum is that, when new people join opinions change and crap can be phased out - gumtree & it's forum are a venue, just like a house or a street can get a reputation, it can be completely changed when the bad apples are nudged out, I'm biased though, as I'm conviced gumtree will eventually get a boost of funding or something at some point and new people & bits & bobs will happen for it - look at PayPal - they got a massive injection of credibility when eBay brought them - same 'upgrade' will happen with this place at some point - big brothers eyeball (eBay people that live in the eBay tower) just ain't looking this way with the chequebook very much at the moment.
I'm pleased they got a sportsday anyway! |

as for the 'cosy little clique of racist neanderthals that run this forum' I think you'll find they ain't cosy bedfriends, far from it, they like nothing better than bitching between themselves. Nobody 'runs' this place. People post, you choose to ignore or read, maybe reply and if you're feeling a bit tasty get stuck into a debate about why someones else's opinion is bullshit or not.
There's a lot of winding up that goes on, you'll just have to figure out who's doing the winding up and who's really spreading the hate.

i think the problems lies in a very boring reading of the word 'community'.... people are usiing this forum to speak about very tired "important" lazy journalistic issues....and are talking about them full of cliches and received opinions or just in a flippant or glib way...... some wind ups some not.... personally i think the wind ups are less silly than the people going arounding saying things like "it's pc gone mad" and other set phrases....
this forum isn't talksport..... some of the gummers should spend their tme calling talksport to talk about lazy journalistic "Impoortant Issues" in a hackneyed way... that's what talksport was made for.... cliched cabbie and water-cooler 'conversations'
(although ian collins and george galloway may fall outside of this... into a 'bareable' category) |

Not necessarily... I have no doubt that all sorts of people are racists, academic or not. They may be well educated on paper but in my opinion not in theory! |

You seem to be suggesting that academic achievements aren't the only measure of intelligence, if so then I agree. The world is full of educated derelicts.
But just to be clear, someone who doesn't embrace and delight in 'diversity', and who doesn't wish to be 'culturally enriched' by our immigrant cousins, must be uneducated, is this correct?
And a person who has little or no academic achievements to their name but is actually still rather bright could not possibly hold 'racist' views, is this correct? |

quite frankly i think it is a disgrace considering that despite the age limit kids will most definitely be surfing this forum!
am glad to see however that other forums do regulate 'threads' and 'replies' without detracting from the participators enjoyment. |
I agree with you to a certain degree, there is no point debating on a topic if it does not result in enlightenment!
However... I'm sorry to say racism is a very real part of the world. Always has been always will be. Instead of stifling it i see no reason why it shouldn't be openly discussed and hopefully resolved. |
