Hi just posted a couple of items for sale and have recieved a good response from potential buyers.
The question is for you seasoned sellers, is it customary for buyers to want to inspect your goods prior to buying? and if so would it be a good idea to invite random unknown people round my home for a look?
Please let me know what is customary in the Gumtree sales process!! |

| I don't know what gumtree's advise on this subject is but i would not buy anything without seeing it first hand , a photo can lie ie it may be old but you must be very careful never let anyone into your home while you are alone always have a neighbour , friend , or relative present at a specific time to suit you not them . Finally don't let them bully you down in price bargaining is one thing but bullying is quite another if you start to feal uncomfortable open the door and say firmly thankyou i will get back to you . Good Luck |

I've sold a few things here and there and you have got to let people come and see it before they will buy. You can always arrange to meet somewhere else but for your sake easier for them to come to you, meet them out the front of your palce and preferably make sure someone else is home. I've never had a problem though.
Inspection a must though especially if item expensive. |

Had a friend who advertised a camcorder and had a guy pop round to buy it - he didn't even want a demo, he just 'bought' it outright.
Transpired, as per usual, that the bankers draft he presented to buy it was bogus and all contact details he supplied were false. The police did catch him as he had form for buying other goods, such as cars, this way.
She was suspicious at the time because of his haste.
So I guess this means that you might like a friend present when the viewings take place, you have to trust your instincts and avoid payment by cheque or bankers draft. |
