Hi there,

I arrive in London tomorrow. I will seek a job as soon as I be there. Before leaving I would like to know how to dress to do so. For example, if I seek a job dressed like this :

Is that ok ?

Or do I have to be very smart/class ?
Thanks a lot.

i don't believe it! he got here before me again. hi coppa.

hiya milki. or rather bonjour m'sieur. you got something lined up already? well done m8. best of british luck.

if you dress like that it will rain. wear a macintosh and take an umbrella with you if you want the sun to shine.

jeesh milki - we didn't think you were being serious!

it's the same as in France. the larger and more formal the organization, the more formal the dress code. generally it's best to wear a suit and tie to an interview - you won't be too far off the dress code, especially as you are aiming to work in the legal field. lawyers have a lot of client contact, so their 'uniform' tends to be a suit.

always dress to impress, but once you are in the job, learn from your colleagues. but then being french, being impressively dressed is second nature!

Well i would never go to an interview for a "real" job dressed like this. In my first topic I have never mentioned that I was asking this for a legal job.
I wanted to know if this kind of clothes were ok to apply to a job like bar staff, salesman in a shop (computer shop or something like this).

Tomorow the weather forecast says that the temperature is apt to be very high. That's why i wanted to know if a "sport suit" like in the picture was ok...

I haven't had enough space in my bad to bring my suite with me... and i forgot my tie !

hi milki

i must have got u mixed up with someone else who had just finished a masters in french and european social law Embarassed i apologise.

a suit is safe for an interview - you can't go wrong. but if you are looking for casual 'dead-end' work like bar/waiter, then you will have more leeway; but you will still need to look smart and not too casual at interview. according to human resource managers, interviewers make their mind up about candidates within 8 seconds of meeting them.

(PS : I am the one you thought but I won't start by applying for legal jobs. I would like to work a few weeks in a "student like" of job to improve my english before.)

hehehe. very good joke, Milki. but you are missing something important. your french is a passport into bilingual positions which the typical english person cannot take. i assure you that your written english is much better than my written french! you will learn plenty of english once you start working and socialising here. just promise not to pick up that horrid london accent. Wink

i bet you learn all the swear words first!
