PRAISE GUMTREE AND PRAISE GOOGLE!!!!

Without you all I would have been the next one scammed!!!!!!

Mary got into contact with me recently and as the emails have progressed the spelling/grammar has become worse and worse and she used Aussie terminology inccorectly. But the accommodation deal sounded great AND she posted a picture of herself and of the place. I did already send my details including a photo of my passport (I hope she doesn't use it - can I report that somewhere???).

Luckily I noticed all the dodginess once she emailed through the lease agreement and a copy of 'her' passport. The Lease Agreement wasn't even on a lawyers letterhead - there were no contact details whatsoever and a google search showed an incredibly pathetic website. The scan of her passport was also obviously fake and the details fixed with photoshop!!!! I can post it here if you like. I'm afraid she will use mine to scam someone else.

Watch out for scam adds on Londonadzooks.co.uk as the same scamers operate there. E-mail cathy.james231@yahoo.com. I did a search on 10 e-mails used on gumtree and got 5 with IP address 209.85.147.18 and 5 with IP. 209.131.36.58 plus cathy.james231 on londonadzoo is also 209.131.36.58 .These IPs lead to US. Most of these e-mail addresses are still active. Is there anybody who is a computer wizzard who can do more with this info? Like locate these computers?

Incredible, I posted my ad looking for a room for the first time on gumtree and I was surprised to receive so many answers. Then I realised that the content was always similiar... they want my personal data even before speaking ok everything else!!
Some of the things you should really be aware of, are:
Contradictions. This guy signed first with a name, then with a different one. In the beginning his English was perfect (he says he's a British citizen), but then I noticed some mistakes that made me think that something was wrong...
Content and pattern. The emails have all the same pattern: they seem to be able to wait days or weeks for you to go to London (and so, they're not renting the room in that time? Isn't it wasting money??) but they can't wait for you to send the money to yourself. Besides, the room is too convenient...

Well guess waht the apartment I found it on the foxtons websites renting for 3x the price ( however this is after she alrady had my money) because i put her blurb into google and searched it after i didn't hear anything back from her for over a week. SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!!!!!
check the blurb and the phots were even stolen from foxton website as was her rental agreement!!! SCAMMER!!

@bahadur: she offered my the nearly the same room not in melbourne but in sydney. I am lucky I found this thread via google and I have not send any money. How did you find out that you where scamed? Have you arrived at the flat and all was fake?
Until I read this "Kathleen McHugh" seemed very serious to me. She even sent me the picture of her drinking that you even got and furthermore a scanned in copy of her passport. So I am really lucky I found this here because I did not think that this would be fake.

I was almost scammed by this person earlier this year (you can read what happened to be a little further up)

I live in Sydney, and to be honest, it is really simple to rent a place once you get here. I recommend staying in a youth hostel (clean, cheap and secure!) and during your first few days in town, searching a local rental website, or visiting real estate agents so that you can see the place in person - even if you are looking for short-term rental.

fish me on a dating website, Craigslist in US, We meet and he told me about all his boulschit that I can work from him as a PA and he will send me money on my account via wire transfer from London Barclay account. I was ready to give my info and then he e-mail me to tell me that a friend of him is very sick in London, he has to visit her.
I nerver ear about him after that and then what's happens????
I meet him by concidence in a coffee shop!!! There he was with all his lye.
I still didn't understand at that point so then I went on the website and fish him under feck name. He did reply within 3 min. I wanted to give him rendez vous to slam him in his face but he was suspisious
