Currently situated in Sydney, and theres been a lot of attention towards Australians being overweight. How is it so that a developed country like Australia could be overweight? Shouldn't we be smarter than generations ago, and yet we're unhealthier..

I didn't know that the Aussies had a problem with it but the UK certainly has. It started in the US and my dad always used to say "What's in the US 2day will be in the UK in 20 years". He was right as far as RamRaiding and lots of other stuff.

I think Australia is second to the US atm. But i know that since fast food has been introduced to Europe we're all facing the same problem now. so i guess fast food is all to blame. Healthy, self prepared meals aren't ideal anymore?

It's a problem among the entire developed world... However, it is not the fault of our government or the suppliers of the food. It is our own fault to allow ourselves into such states of obesity. I may be in Britain, but all the obese people I know are obese at their own accord. They eat fatty foods, they don't exercise and rarely eat something that hasn't got the entire preservative family in it.

Besides, if you are obese and don't want to be, there are more than enough diet support groups in any country, whther it is Australia, Britain or America, there is help. But it is their choice to except that help!!!

Yeah both the previous 2 posts sound an ideal solution except the fat slobs would start crying and saying "I cawn't" like the pathetic blobs of teenagers in the TV programme "Can Fat Teens Hunt?".

Imagine it now, 50 overweight offspring of McDonalds released onto a game reserve the size of North Yorkshire (I was going to say North Yorks itself, but the fat fucks would never get over some of them little hills).
Then a handful of celebrity wannabes sent after them with .50 hunting rifles (hopefully, knowing the IQ of said wannabees, they will manage to thin out the field through accidental death from inability to figure out a) a trigger and b) a safety catch)
Tracking them by the discarded burger wrappers, incredibly deep footprints and wisps of poly cotton from their over sized tracksuits that the morbidly obese wear, they have to hunt them down before they reach the sanctuary of the fast food restaurant, marked by a double golden arch.

There is no money in healthy food, and who has time to cook any more, we're all trying to pay the mortgage, and I wonder just how many new "fattening" products hit the supermarket shelves every day, and many have health claims attached; sweet drinks with vitamins and minerals etc.

If we all lived on the basic fruit veg and protein foods the supermarket as we know it today would not exist! And, we would all be much healthier!

The Market giants are training us by beckoning our kids; free shows, join the kid clubs, they "support local schools"....it's all subtle....go shopping for your whole day and be entertained, and some people have that culture, and believe it or not, they spend part of every day in the shopping center.....what a life!

p-s the reason why supermarket can still make money is becaue they can charge £4.00 for a tumbler of fresh mixed fruit and smoothies are many times more expensive than orange flavored drinks.

It become speciality food - so if poor you eat less of it but make the most of it, like a luxury, rather than gorge on cheap shit.

im from the states, just moved here and let me tell you. I was here ten years ago and i dont remember it being this bad. How is it that America seems to continue to poison the rest of the world and No one is stopping them.......... I mean, there were NOT malls here 10 years ago, at least not like now. And people were much more relaxed about, i dunno, everything. The amount of makeup ive seen on the women and even LIttle girls here, i am soooo blown away. What the hell is going on with the world.

Just read the post - I agree with most of what has been written..........

One thing i agree with especially is healthy lemons comments about the price of healthy food. Healthy food is so expensive..............all the supermarket bogofs are always on crappy foods like crisps, chocolate and pop. I started looking after myself and eating properly a while back, I would go to the supermarket on a Monday and buy Strawberries, Blueberries, grapes and raspberries........£16! Imagine what I could have got for £16 if I had bought multipacks of chocolate and crisps. Its no excuse.........I could buy apples, oranges and bananas but they don't appeal to me like the nicer fruits do. We choose what we put in our bodies and most people are too lazy to cook healthy meals, the problem is food is everywhere now, you can't walk down a high street without being faced with subway, Mcdonalds, burger king, pizza hut etc, and lets face it although it does the body no good - junk food actually tastes alot nicer than fruit, salad and veg.

Shops/Government are not to blame but they should be taking measures to encourage. Lower the price of healthy foods and increase the junk food, it wouldn't make everyone wake up tomorrow buying fruit and veg but it would encourage more people to buy these products.
