can anyone please tell me what the area is like, what kind of transport links there are everywhere, what kind of music venues there are around etc etc, general opinions would be great thanks! xx

Well, it's a bit of a non-area really, which is probably why you have had zero responses!

There's a well known Irish pub where everyone goes to get pissed and watch tribute bands. Otherwise, it's nice and centrally located for getting to other places but not that much going on.

Of course, if you were to venture one stop down the line and join us in sunny Brixton, there's a wealth of entertainment to be had - lots of clubs and great live music venue (Brixton Academy).

I remember one day waiting for a friend next to Stockwell Station and a young man with a gun running around.
But it was one-off. Area is ok, lots of council blocks though. It is close to brixton with lots of clubs and pubs and to clapham high street (restaurants, pubs, one club infernos which is ok).
