Address advertised for flat: 14 Bloomsbury Way (which does not exist, but as mentioned by receptionist of hotel in the street, people keep asking him for this address(!).... !!! Take care guys! Save the cash!

PLEASE guys, never pay any money until you can view the property. Someone renting their flat should not have to take a security deposit off you. There are plenty of people on Gumtree looking for flats, so they should have a great response anyway.

yeah ... i have just been contact by this Katy Chester whoever this person is... basically telling me that a place in Camden town is going for 550 deposit and that 400 pounds rent per month ....WARNING this persons english is horrible, yes they say this heartbreaking story of how she is working in Manchester and doesn't have the time to come down ....
she has even sent me a Tenancy agreement and her passport scan!!! f*** i can't belive i was so stupid to trust her (i sent my passport scan as well!!! shit!!!)

I got an email from Katherine Chester too a while ago. It seemed too good to be true and I was put off by just how bad her English was (considering how English her name sounded), so never even bothered replying. I guess this is the line that gets most people

'i can reserve the room for you for the period you want cos a lot of people have wasted my time on this issue and i really want to deal with people who are serious'

As a result I don't tend to bother placing room wanted adverts anymore, as everything that is on offer you can just seek out in the room offered section.

Hi, this person is still about! Just contacted me this morning with the same story as detailed by others here, for 14 Bloomsbury Way. This is the 4th dodgy scammer who has contacted me, ad my ad has only been on here 1 week. It is also happening from oops.com. Everyone beware! These ads always follow the same tone. They are usually in central london, the price is around £400 a week and they always mention some kind of agreement form in the first email or two. For those of you outside London - you should know a room in central london is hugely expensive and if it is listed as less than £850 you should be wary. Even if it's over this price, make sure the person gives you all the details in the first email and offers a meeting time. If they take several emails to deliver all the details, or they tell you a lot about themselves personally, it is probably a scam. Make a note: these scammers usually don't place ads, they contact you directly from an ad you have placed. The English is usually really bad also. I have someone trying to sell me a room in Hatton Road, WC1, who claims to be doing a Masters degree and whose father was a lawyer (he died recently on a business trip to Australia from, get this, INFLUENZA, .....get out the violins!) and her English is so bad I'm surprised she even got into uni at all, let alone a Masters degree.

Another girl going by the name of Stefania Osella claimed to be a 23 year old Italian artist, again, whose father died recently, and she was living in his old flat. This girl claimed that her lawyer had demanded that she didn't show anyone the flat until they sent a Western Union transfer as security. She even invited me on MSN to 'chat' about it. Of course I refused to send any money and that was that.

I will list the email addresses and names and fake 'addresses' of all the scammers who have contacted me in the past week in my next entry to this forum.

Still not been asked to post money via western union but when i am asked to do so i shall give them a fake western union number and if more do that they will probably give up with this scam.

I think the people most likely to be conned by this scam are foreign students so I hope they are able to read this b4 departing with a lot of money.

I have to warn you that she (or someone else) has now my passport photo and that i know for a fact that she is using my identity to rob people of their money!
My name is Lorene Faure and this person has created an email adress with my name: lorene_fa@yahoo.fr and is sending out my passport photo as a proof of her idendity.
This is a fraud, i am not renting any appartement, neither in London nor in Paris, so beware!
Please if you have any contact with this 'fake Lorene Faure' please let me know so that i can 're-file' a complaint!!!

After reading the last post, I now realise that this is probably how the person who tried to scam me about 8 months ago got 'their' passport from. They sent me a copy of a passport in the name of 'Kerry Bullock,' so if anyone sent the same scammer a copy of their passport, just to let them know they are using it!! I have been in very long e-mail conversations with [b]Kerry Bullcok[/b] as well. She contacted me in an add I had on gumtree, and litteraly told me her whole life story in the first mail. Her mother died, and now her grandmother is also almost dead, why she has to stay with her in a hospital in Southampton. She also sent me a copy of her british passport, and a very simple tenancy agreement - WITH NO ADDRESS OF THE FLAT. She had this LOVELY 2 bedroom flat with garage in Chiswick for 600 pcm!!! BUT she wanted me to do a Western Unoin Transfer and sent her the MTCN number, so she could track the payment on the internet as proof of deposit! But she never gave any address, exept for a postcode, nor telephone number etc. As we refused to do the WU-transfer she actually went that far to send us a Bank Account number we could transfer the money to instead - which by unknown reasons was in the name of:

I do not want you to have the feeling that i am asking for money BEFORE you see what you are renting because i know that payment is meant to be done AFTER you have seen the Flat and okay with it.-The reason why you have to be receiver is basically to give you the confidence that your money is still in your name and to make sure that your money is still safe since it is still in you name as the receiver as you are the only one who can collect it with a valid ID,maybe with a passport or drivers license.

Really appreciate your words in assuring to pay me if you like
the Flat.I understand you quite okay.However,i do not want to stand on
people's promise of paying me cash or cheque when we meet again
because i have met with time wasters.I was discussing with my
colleague about the idea on how i will be so sure that i will not be
coming down to London on a futile exercise and she advised that we can
work out something via Western Union Transfer.

She made me to understand that she has used it a couple of
times for renting out her room if she is not around. She said that
western union can actually hold the money as an evidence and surety
that her tenant will pay her at least for the first month and
deposit.She explained that you can visit any Western union outlet and
transfer the money IN YOUR FRIEND NAME as the SENDER and RECEIVER will
be in YOUR NAME.-You will use his/her name as the SENDER and AFTER
viewing and you are okay with the flat,we both can go back to withdraw
your money from western union close to my flat as she said she has
done transactions this way before.

I do not want you to have the feeling that i am asking for
money BEFORE you see what you are renting because i know that payment
is meant to be done AFTER you have seen the Flat and okay with it.-The
reason why you have to be receiver is basically to give you the
confidence that your money is still in your name and to make sure that
your money is still safe since it is still in you name as the receiver
as you are the only one who can collect it with a valid ID,maybe with
a passport or drivers license.

So in order for me to also be on a good side,you can go ahead
and make the transfer since you have the money ready,let me know
immediately you do the transfer so that i can know how to squeeze out
time to come and meet you.But i will have to rely on your honesty and
truth that you have actually make the payment before i leave here to
come down to London to see you.What evidence will you give me so that
I can be sure that you have made the payment? I was made to understand
that you can Send me the (Sender name, Receiver name and MTCN) to
confirm here online on www.westernunion.com if its there before making
my way.

I was also made to understand that western union takes some
charges for the transfer and i am telling you that i will return back
to you the full transfer charges whether you decide to rent the flat
or not when we meet,ok?After doing the transfer,then i will have to
leave here and be with you in London to meet you immediately.
