Hi, I've just witnessed a healthy mature walnut tree being culled. I can only see about 3 mature trees from the view at the top of my house now. Im really sad (and angry).

Yes I know what you mean, the large, beautiful ancient pear tree was felled too.... I feel your pain... Sends hugs....

my philosophy is....if you have to fell a tree, then one must be planted in it's place.

Thanks medousa. You're the only one that seems to have understood my pain. It's just that there aren't many trees left around here where I live in a town centre, and I've been here for 12 years now. As it wasn't on my property I doubt that they'll replace it unfortunately.

others do share your pain,i think its criminal to cut down any healthy tree
and some less than healthy trees i know because i have three plum trees that have canker which i am treating and they are slowly recovering.
after all trees and other green things contribute 40% of the worlds oxygen.
i also find sitting near trees has a calming effect.

If you live in a small home, you should consider getting a Bonsai or two, they are not too expensive these days.

I was surprised at my reaction but I suppose it was because I had got so use to gazing at it from the window over the years and then for people to cut it down for no good reason. I did knock on their door and an E. European girl answered and she didn't understand my concern. Will people never be satisfied until all of our heritage is ripped out? I probably need to get out into the countryside more, I too find it calming. Cheers you 2 for yr input

quiet in here innit

Don't worry too much about the heritage thing, there are always die hard Brits like my self that will carry on visiting the Battle of Culloden and the Battle of Bosworth sites etc... us Brits are made of strong stuff, we usual triumph in the end.

I wonder if I can get away with mentioning that the Pakistanis who live near me cut down a healthy Victorian Plum tree in their back garden for no reason, especially given that they gathered the plums off it first! without being accused of racism?
It's quiet and boring in all the other forums as well. That's why I came in here!
