Me and my partner are in the same position and cant find a solution! I can tell you thought you cannot get married as to do this you have to show legal documents proving your legal status in Britain.
I am an Aussie working in recruitment in the UK (on a british passprt as well as Aus.) And I have to say the amount of African people that try and get work through recruitment agencies and have expired visas is second only to Russians - so hmm guessing no stats were actually taken into account when coming up with your highly uneducated reply!!!
What happens when you apply for work when you have an expired visa can you aplly for it to be extended through finding a job.

S.O.S

Sure unfortunately you will be affected because on return into the country (UK) your immigration status will be checked by the immigration officials. Actually before you board the plane from whichever country you are from, you visa to enter the UK will be checked.

Hi

I have overstayed on my working holiday VISA for 4 months and I am leaving in 10 days, will immigration check me when I leave at Heathrow or will I be free to just leave?

If they do check me will I be in huge trouble for only overtsatying a few months?

Or should i fly out to dublin on saturday and arrive in heathrow the night before i leave and tell them im happy to stay at the airport untill the morning, or will this raise questions am i better to just leave from here and see what happens?

in responce to questions how and does immigration know when your visa expires the answer is obvious. It says on your visa the amount of time allowed in the country and it also has a stamp with the date you entered the country

It turned out recently that one of my workmates had been working here illegally when they randomly checked all employees 'right to work'.

He'd been living here and paying tax and NI for 5 years but it didnt make the slightest difference to immigration, they worked with other EU immigration authorities as he'd also been to other countries and responded amazingly fast, it seems they take working illegally VERY seriously once its brought to their attention and no employer will risk the fine imposed to protect you, no matter what your sircumstances may be. If your ready to go home best to just come clean before they come to you!

As for leaving the country unnoticed i fly from B'ham quite often and if your taking an international flight they seem to always check all passports ( even uk) very closely, within the eu however a quick once over the pic seems to be more than enough.

actually if you are that worried about it, take the eurostar to paris, as there is no UK immigration desks and never has been, so I can't see any way you would be checked. You have already passed french immigration before you get on the train, the immigration in waterloo is french and like the irish they don't care what your visa status was in the UK.

This is BAD advice and possibly the worst thing you could do.

I'm not singling out this poster in particular, as there have been a number of other giving the same advice. I travel several times a month on Eurostar and also do regular travel out of Heathrow.

When leaving Saint Pancras, you will not pass UK immigration. However, you will pass French immigration, and they will put a stamp in your passport allowing you into France. The only problem is that this stamp very clearly states that you are leaving London. It says "LFT LONDRES" and is dated. It will thus be obvious that you have overstayed.

On the other hand, in the dozens of times I have flown out of Heathrow, I have never once had my passport checked by anyone other than airline checkin staff or the people just ahead of the security checks. The security check people are simply interested in seeing the boarding pass and verifying that the name on the boarding pass matches the name in the passport. No stamps are put into your passport.

Your best bet is to exit via Heathrow.

What happens when I stay longer in the UK than I've stated it in the "Landing Card" form?

When I entered the UK as a traveler a few days ago I told the immigration officer at the airport that I will stay here for about six days. Now, I would like to stay here for four weeks. The stamp in my passport tells me that I can stay here for up to six month. Will there be any problem when I leave the country? Whom can I tell that I wish to stay longer than I've told the immigration officer (but not longer than the stamp allows me)?

i am a student who just completed her BSC, so happy, but i really need to get back home, since my visa ends in less than 4 months,i couldnt get a fulltime job, so im stuck with a part time job, so it means theres no way i can afford my flight ticket back.i dont want to overstay but the look of things i will have to, trying to come up with the money. anybody knows of any helplines? im one of those africans who dont think stayin here after my studies will help, so going home for a happy life.
