To all those who contuine to fight racism and belive in Equality, I inform you to avoid studying at The Sutton Coldfield and its other Campuses, epecially theGreat Barr Campus.
Some time ago, I enrolled on a part time Photography Course.
I had already had a Degree in it. So this p/t course was jt to upgrade my knowledge of it.
In my class was 4 whites females.
On the second week of my course, the white female tutor, told me to come out side of the class and have a private word.
She told me, that I could not contiune on the course, AS ME HAVING A DEGREE, made the other students in the group, uneasy. she told me,i would have to leave the course, and the College.
I therefore urge all who fight racism not to go there |

I read your post with dismay. This clearly is not a racist issue. If what you say is true about your degree, why would you need to top up your knowledge at a college? Your lecturer was right in part, it would make students in the class uneasy knowing you had earned a degree in the subject they may have only just started out on. In their eyes you would be way ahead in terms of knowledge and maybe skill and know how. It wouldnt be fair on either students in terms of exams either. Look at it from their point of view, if a lecturer in photography came in to learn in the same class as you, wouldnt you be perplexed as to why they were there in the first place? Maybe the lecturer didnt explain it too well as to why it wouldnt be a good idea if you continued in that class, maybe he/she could've suggested an advanced class to help you, but this certainly doesnt strike me as a racist issue.
And yes I have been a student in this college, and no I didnt find it racist at all. That doesnt mean to say it doesnt go on, but my experience has been all positive.
Don't let this one grey area in your learning curve blind you to what you can achieve....if you do, think about what you might miss. And bad mouthing this college will not help you, it will only serve to make you a bit of a laughing stock...as you can already see by some of the comments.

Look it may have been a racist inciden, it may not have been.
But why automatically jump to the conclusion that it is'nt.
The OP is in the best position to understand as he experienced what had happened. The majority of people do not experience racism towards so they can't understand it or know that feeling. |

That arfument makes anything that is said to someone from someone else of a different race, that the recipient does not like, racist.
That is to say, this conversation:
Person One (In Authority) - You cannot do this thing due to this reason (in this case, the level of education).
Person Two - I don't like that.
If person one and two are of the same race, it can only be as Person One says. However, if they are of different races, you are saying we should assume that it is racism, or at the least, not discount that as a possibility? How about the most obvious reason being the most likely? |

Racist is as racist does..but...Its rare to hear a white person blame racism for things that don't go right in thier life. I do think a certain element of people of colour do use the racism card blatantly and it has got to the stage where white people are being picked up for "racism" everytime they make any kind of negative comment against someone with an obvious huge chip on thier shoulder.
We are such a tolerant race. We sit back as we are told not to fly our national flags or have carol services etc in case we offend other groups yet have to tolerate other religons/races as they celebrate thier festivals on our streets all in the name of integration.
Its a two way street and its not all black and white |
