In case you haven't already noticed we have just introduced some changes to the listing pages and the ad pages themselves, including:

- a link on every page to the place where you can manage your own ads
- a link on every page to Help
- search options listed together on the left-hand side of the listings pages
- photos and maps displayed more prominently in the ads
- contact details for ads more clearly displayed
- the save ad option more visible on every page so that you can easily keep track of the ads that you are interested in

We hope that you like all of the changes and find they make the site even easier to use. As always we'd love to know what you think about the new look so feel free to let us know!

We had a problem with posting reference numbers not showing up for users who have Internet Explorer v7. This has now been fixed. If you had IE7 then you should find it is fine now - let us know.

Sorry to hear that Sad Is there anything in particular about it that you don't like? Are you finding anything in particular difficult to use or is it the look of it?

Hi as user of many forums ect and i always think security is very important and one that stands out from the rest is not to give to much info out of where you live ect,so seeing the new google map with almost your exact location highlighted,i feel very tempted to delete my adds and stop using this service.

Say for example you had a 30k car for sale and someone not very honest could see ypour location and come round your street

Hope you can see my point here and concider removing this feature

i'm not sure about the modernized gumtree. As since it has been revamped,.. all my postings over the months have gone, aswell, i put a post on last night, to find that it was'nt there today for some reason. Ok I understand maybe there are a few new rules. Why wasn't I even notified that my ad's would be removed?? And that these changes were going to be inforce?

Now i have just tried again a few hours ago, just waiting now for this posting to come up?...

Maybe there is a giant hick-up in the system?? what with all the changes,.. just hope u can iron these out. Gumtree is a fantastic site, it's the best I have come across in terms of a noticeboard that is accessable and free. Would be disappointed if u i had to look elsewhere.. Sad(

please don't make it too hard for the simple lay-wo/man to use!!

Hello,
would it be possible to create a 'Tution' section in Business services? I teach French and I think other tutors would appreciate a proper place to put their ads. Thanks a lot! and thanks for the great site too! Very Happy

All fair and dandy creating a new look, but how about improving your customer service and attitude. Craigs list looks like a bomb shelter compared to yours, but at least it does what it says on the tin and we get results.

Hi I have posted my ads in every city to get the word out and see if we can get some help with trying to find homes for all the pets in pounds as they only get 7 days before they are put to sleep. But only one ad is showing up. I wrote on here on May 12, 2008 and I asked if it would be ok if I put our link on the ad and the_tidy_kiwi who is a moderator said it should be fine. I only want to try to get people involoved and aware of what is going on in pounds all over UK. Please can someone help me Question Please email me at ukpetrescue08@yahoo.co.uk Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

The new resolution for photos is smaller, why? The photos come out really noisy too. If the photos weren't so messy, I wouldn't mind so much Sad

Shouldn't things improve rather than degrade? We have bigger monitors that can run at higher res these days, why make the res smaller and why are the photos so noisy?

The resolution and quality of uploaded photos are now both noticibly worse than they were before. Even though the pictures look the same size they always display horribly, compared to before where they looked the same as the original uploaded file.

Fix it please! Mad

AWFUL!!!!! Evil or Very Mad

As usual, a successful format that everyone likes has been changed just for the sake of it. Why!?

The ads used to really stand out and were in exactly the right resolution/boldness. The new thin resolution is actually painful to look at, and as for pushing the left hand margin all over to the right just to accomodate the search box.. DUH!! who thought of that!? The eyes then have to refocus/realign to read the ads. TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You had it exactly right before, why mess it up? Just leave it as it was.

(ever wondered why google have never changed their homepage?)

And one other thing..

THe search result pages are now much too low, you just have a couple of ads showing then have to scroll down to see the rest..

Bad use of space, with nothing much at the top.

When you search for something, you want the results/ads to appear right there in front of you so you can see them and they are clickable .. not have to then scroll down to get them.

That's one of the golden rules of web design, minimise the amount of effort/clicks the user has to do.

C'mon Gumtree, you know this!

There seems to be a change on the site. I cannot 'post an ad' for a volunteer. Other categories are fine but the input screen does not come up for a volunteer post??

And while I'm at it..

The only advertisers who benefit from this revamp are the sponsored links at the top.. which are basically the only ones you can see on a small/laptop moniter.

They will see an increase in traffic from Gumtree, whilst the normal posters below will see a big decrease as you have to physically scroll down before you can see those free ads. Sad

(just trying to offer constructive feedback)

Topkat, E360 - thanks for pointing that out. Yes, the images are slightly smaller than before (down from 400x300 to 358x268). This was a bit of a compromise in the new design - not everyone has a big monitor and not everyone has their screen resolution set correctly anyway, and we had to leave enough space for the ad description to the left. However, we are looking at introducing a "view full size" option at some point in the future to allow the images to be enlarged if required. Stay tuned!

As for the image quality, you both clearly have keen eyes! This is because we are currently resizing old images to fit the smaller area in the browser rather than properly when they are uploaded. Newly uploaded images will be resized correctly, so should not suffer from this problem. Unfortunately, because the cut-over to the new design is a gradual process we had to support both sizes concurrently. Thus this issue will solve itself over time. If you still see a problem with new ads, please let me know.

pete330 - this is a valid point, and we agree that not everyone wants their location displayed like this. However, the only thing that has changed is that we now display the map on the same page as your ad - before, we used to just link to a separate page. If you edit your ad and remove the postcode then the map should disappear. Bear in mind, though, that in general people are more likely to respond to an ad if they can see the location.
