contribute your tips of gardening here.
slugs and snails

if you must use slug pellets then put a few in small pots and place around plants, not only does it protect wildlife but means you can dispose of the horrid stinking mess as well.

when cool add one tablespoon to one gallon(uk) then sprinkle on plant leaves

tip of the day

to help keep pests away use companion planting

marigolds in amongst veggies

also garlic

encourage hover flies (they look like small wasps but dont sting)they eat green and black fly

buy pots of ladybirds (usa call them ladybugs)

the ultimate slug killer are nematodes cruel i think.
water them in and they burrow into slugs and eat them alive

To help stop flies/mosquitos from breeding in your pond, put some golden minnows in it. They will eat all the larvae. Wink Arrow

when using slug pellets put them in the bottom of small containers laid on their sides so slugs crawl in and expire, and creatures that normaly eat them dont get poisoned

Or perhaps attract more birds into the garden, they will eat the little blighters for you.

Don't have marigolds, slugs and snails go mad for them and Hosta's too.

we have plenty of birds but they wont eat the slugs and snails, marigolds need garlic planted with them to offset the slug problem, companion planting only works with mixing many species

this is true, as does yeast mixed with warm water. nematodes are the most effective but expensive, and the electric fence is good.

Got any tips for the dreaded Japanese Knot weed. I have heard the only way do get rid of it for sure is to inject the roots with weed killer!!! Seems a little radical...
