| A decent long term relationship, a place to live and a Shish Kebab. Only one of these is relevant on this forum. WTF is the matter with you people?? I'm earning a fortune! I can pay the rent! I'm clean! Only mildly boring, I don't have personality/social skills of Robert Mugabe.......Give me a room! |

| Don't show off like mad ... if you earned a fortune you'd get a mortgage. |

Hell no! I want to enjoy the money, not slavishly spend my entire life before I am too old to do anything working away only to be sending cash to the bank
Rent, save, travel...can't do much about income tax, almost nothing I can do about NICs, but at least I can avoid a lot of VAT and all the other taxes here by doing that |

hugheskevi ... correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know the mortgage repayment is on similar level as rent, but with a few heavy advantages.
1. independancy
2. having the full authorisation to decorate the way YOU want it
3. don't need to be afraid of rent raise / notice
4. the property belongs to you / your children after 25 to 30 years
5. if you ever decide to sell, the investment value is as save as it gets
Well, the disadvantage is the far too high price for the value and the conditions to get the one accepted by the banks are crazy too.
Who can put down 25 % onto the table straight away ?
And how to protect yourself against crappy properties the best ?
Not to mention how to avoid been pulled over by estate agencies ? |

I actually think that sharing rented accomodation is probably a better outcome from a purely financial perspective than buying and living alone. Not certain how it might compare to buying and living with a partner - probably better to buy in that case.
Room in shared flat/house is about £100 to £150 including bills. The cost of interest alone on a mortgage would be far more than that. Of course, there is capital appreciation to factor in, etc, but overall I think that I would be better off in money-terms alone over, say, a 10 year period comparing scenarios where I lived in rented accomodation and saving the difference between rent and mortgage compared to buying my own place and selling at end of period.
The non-financial advantages you list still apply, and I guess you could also rent out rooms in a property you own and live in to increase money.
Personally I prefer renting, investing savings, and being able to go off on long trips travelling without any ties every few years compared to buying my own place, having a big debt (albeit with a big asset) and ties to London.
Won't work out so well as buying a house and staying here would when I am aged 50 or 60, but overall I think I'm happier enjoying life fully now than aspiring to become a mortgage-slave, which seems to be many Brits' obsession |

2. having the full authorisation to decorate like a gay
3. don't need to be afraid of giveing the landlord a blowjob
4. the property belongs to you / your children can fuck off
5. if you ever decide to sell, the investment value is as save as jelly

ok, let's see ...
1. selling your arse
2. having to invest a huge amount to decorate the place
3. don't need to be afraid of giving the landlord a blowjob
4. the property belongs to you / your children can fuck off
5. if you ever decide to sell, the investment value is as save as jelly
6. You need to be prepared to be violently raped by the estate agency
7. You need to be ready to be multiple raped by the bank over many YEARS !
8. you will have to live with shit neighbours until they move or die
9. if your house needs major maintenace, you have to pay extra premium cost for repair because you are the owner
Why did you say that again ? |

Keep your hands off Arthur! Anyway you might not even wash him before returning. |

Okay, first of all I don't have a wife and if I had and she'd be anything like my ex you would get a high sum of reward for each day you would take her off me.
Secondly, I have every day a little shower and if I get Arthur, we'd have a shower together of course. So don't be mean and give this oops to me for the weekend. He might not want to return to his original master no more. |

Why not buy your own? I believe Arthur has lots of brothers and sisters in shop windows across Soho. But yeah you're right he might not want to return to me, I really should concentrate on improving my social skills. Do you have a brother or even uncle? |
