Hi
I'm planning on sharing a flat with my friend, and am trying to work out what the fairest way of sharing costs would be.
The plan is:
DOUBLE ROOM 1: me (+ girlfriend on a weekend)
DOUBLE ROOM 2: friend + girlfriend (both living there permanently)
We had originally planned that each couple pay half of the rent/bills/council tax/etc. Each couple pay for their room.
Is this fair?
Another way of looking at it would be to split the rent/bills/etc 3 ways between me, my friend, and my friend's girlfriend. If my girlfriend moved in permanently, then we would split it 4 ways. Would this be fairer?
How do you calculate the costs?
Is it on the basis of:
a) people living there?
b) rooms?
If it is a) - then this implies splitting it 3 ways.
If it is b) - then this implies splitting it 2 ways, and then each couple deciding how to pay for the room.
Any other thoughts? |
