Aluminium Cans for cash

Do you know any place that pays for aluminium cans for money. Like beer cans and soft drink cans. Just saw a guy the last day going through the rubbish and picking all the cans out of the bag.

does anyone know how much you would get if you brought them some where?

the guy looked homeless so I thought that was the way he was generating income. Just thought it would be like in america were they pay people for cans.

When I was a kid I used to make money with my pals by returning Gateway Supermarket trolleys from the car park to the store which was a fair bit away inside a shopping centre. 20p a trolley!

We also used to hunt and collect glass bottles i.e. Iron Bru and Coke, if memory serves, the Spar gave you 10p a bottle if you returned it so long as it had a lid on it. Can you still do that?

not sure but that would be good idea. not sure if glass is that valueable any more. i know pubs get back money if they send back coke bottles back to coke.10p a bottle. that because coke just wash out the bottle and fill it with coke again

Years ago, ALCAN - which I'm sure has a plant still going in Fife somewhere - used to have collection sites - usually in supermarket's car parks - where they ran the cans over a magnetic strip in the van and gave you half a pence for every alluminium one. My kids used to collect for extra pocket money!

I'd like to see 1p's and 2p's given the chop. We don't miss the half penny and I think the time has come to erradicate coppers. We would not miss these other nuisance coppers.

Everything is priced to end in a .99p amount and you end up with a zillion of them.

I think all that would happen is you would end up with a zillion 5p's instead and everything would be priced to end in a .95 amount. 5p's at least have that bit of extra value and worth.

i seen that guy again yesterday. he had a small bags of cans that he had crushed and he was looking in the trash cans. i know he is home less but what is he doing with these cans.

i was going to ask him but he looks a bit mental.

i wish i could find out.

I'd follow him next time mate. Not talking night vision goggles or anything heavy, just keep a distance behind and see where he goes. If you don't solve this mystery it will just eat away at you. This is your chance to put it to bed and learn the secrets of the cans.

Yea found places that give you money. one place gives £300 per ton of cans and another gives 50p per kilogram of cans.
