London Hostels Association. They apparently have accomodation in eleven houses for long termers from £64. I called them last year and they ignored my booking so I called them to be told they didn't actually have anyrooms!
Back in London this year, only til March, living in a short term backpackers, so went over to two of LHA's properties today to try and book on the spot.
1st. Railton House. No one on reception, waited for AGES and then gave up and left.
2nd, interesting defination of customer service at this one, Leinster House. asked the guy on reception If I could book from august. The answer? No. Just a straight "No!" Asked why, Apparently august is too far in the future! I should come back a week before. Pointed out that the rules say you have to book a month in advance. He shrugs and closes his window!

London is usually pretty friendly (Ok I'm biased)
Look what I found: Lucky escape?
Westminster hostel faces hygiene probe
Westminster city council is to launch an investigation into a London hostel after a resident was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with septicaemia leading a doctor to question hygiene standards at the facility.
Complaints against Sandeman-Allen House were first passed to the council on January 4 when a list of concerns was sent to the authority’s health and safety department.
Speaking on behalf of residents at the London Hostels Association (LHA) operated site, homelessness worker Phillip Burke told Westminster that bathrooms and showers at the facility lack basics such as soap, towels and toilet paper while the hostel’s mattresses were “not just soiled but utterly filthy”.
In addition to Mr Burke the letter was signed by four hostel residents who said they wished to remain anonymous.
Matters quickly escalated, however, when a young female resident was taken to St Mary’s hospital in the early hours of January 6 suffering from severe stomach pains.
Claiming that she had been screaming for help from her room the resident said that as no one came to help she was forced to call for an ambulance herself.
In a letter to the council other concerns raised by Mr Burke included sightings of cockroaches in corridors as well as incidences of alleged management intimidation.
“This particular hostel takes in excess of £10,000 per week from the 125 residents alone and this is before you begin to look at subsidies. These complaints point to an administration that can at best be described as grubby”, said Mr Burke.
“We are deeply concerned with the state of the facilities and the risk of harm they present to the health and safety of all residents”, he added.
Speaking to Property People yesterday, however, LHA general manager Tony Perkins defended the hostel conditions and said he was confident that the Westminster investigation would find no cause for complaint. He added that the hostel was regularly inspected by the council and that he personally often visited the hostel and talked to residents.
LHA head of residential services Gordon Campbell said: “We will of course cooperate fully with Westminster city council and take any actions, should they deem any necessary. While we have all the procedures in place to handle complaints internally we can’t do this if complaints do not come direct to us. In my opinion Sandeman-Allen is a very well run hostel where there have been no reports in the past that required more than small corrective changes.”
Sandeman-Allen House is one of 11 hostels, housing a total of 1,450 people, operated in the capital by LHA, a group originally set up by the government to house blitz victims. It became a charity in the late 1970s under the control of a voluntary management council.
Westminster council said it would be inspecting the hostel this week with a view to addressing all the complaints made.

What is septicaemia ?
| Quote: | The body's immune system is designed to detect, track down and kill bacteria that cause infections, but if bacteria get into the bloodstream they can invade any part of the body and cause serious damage.
Septicaemia is a medical emergency requiring urgent hospital treatment. This may include antibiotics to kill the invading bacteria.
Often intensive care therapy is needed to support any organs that have been damaged by the infection. |

Try university halls - there are usually rooms available during the summer term - cheap, cheerful, safe, secure and clean - if you're lucky like I was then you might even find one that throws (not literally) in a breakfast as well
and I'm only paying £22 per night! |
