Hi! I'm a 27 year old Aussie female who is going to be living and working in London at the end of the year. I am in the process of securing work, looks like I will be working in Hackney, and I am aware that it is not the best of areas, however one bonus is that it is not too far from the city. How long would it take by bus or tube to city? Was wanting advice from you all about where you would advise me to look for accommodation in a nice, safe yet reasonably priced area close to Hackney? Would be very grateful for your ideas. Thanks.

hackey is shit, plain and simple. Live in Islington not far away and far nicer, you can get pretty much anywhere in London with 30 mins

Hackneys NOT shit..youve just gotta suss out the areas..some are simply better than others..
Hackney Wick aint great neither are most parts of Clapton..
However Stoke Newington is gorgeous and Hackney Central is ok ish as are parts of Bethnal Green..
Islington is lovely and very accessible for most parts of London but it is really pricey..so Id always suggest Stokey as an affordable alternative..
Hackneys not got the greatest reputation but Ive lived here for years and Ive NEVER experienced any problem at all..common sense goes a long way..as it does in any part of the world..
Best of luck

I lived in Wood Green, North London for two years and it was great.

15 mins on the tube to Piccadilly and Leicester Sq and 40 mins on the bus to Camden.

The night buses are great there to so you can always get home, it's green (especially near the Alexandra Place end), has a great pub (The Gate opposite Alexandra Palace train station) and had a 24hr bagel shop.

I live in a house with two boys on balls pond road 5 mins from Dalston, Hackney. I am moving out on Oct 1st and need to find someone for my room. It is a large house with roof terrace and basement. We have 2 bathrooms and a ground floor toilet. The room is spacious and light. One flatmate is a 3rd year medical student, the other is a journalist. Its a wonderful living environment and im very sad to leave. Please contact me if you are interested. Bianca_Mayhew@hotmail.com
