Mike, what does it have to do with Gumtree?
What control do they have, over who responds to your ad?

The same could happen with an ad in a newagents window

what does it have to do with Gumtree ?
The fact that 95% of the people who have shown interest in my sale have been scammers.
It isn't gumtree's fault that these individuals are operating on here, but it strongly discourages me from wanting to use this service again.

It also reflects poorly on gumtree that there are so many people using their service to exploit others.
Only the other day through using this site did i receive a totally legitamate looking payment from paypal. If it wasn't for being savvy, i would have been done up like a kipper there and then.

So what does it have to do with gumtree ? Quite alot, especially if they care about their reputation

I am an unpaid forum mod and my thoughts are my own

Gumtree, craigs list et all are providing a free platform for you to sell stuff, I cant for the life of me see how they could police the people who contact you to find out if they are scammers.

if comet have an ad on the sky and someone plays with a dodgy credit card, is it sky's fault?

gumtree have warnings on the site telling you its about local trading and how to stay safe, i am at a loss knowing what else you are looking for.

Fake E-mail accounts can be made really easily. There's not much Gumtree can do to block the message being sent to you.

If they choose to block messages all you fools will come running to the forums wondering why you can't send messages...

Another one to watch out for is ron.suntry@hotmail.com. Said he lived in Italy and wanted to rent out his flat in Kensington, unbelievably cheap with all bills included but wouldn't come over to let us view the flat until he was sure of renting it, then wanted 2 months' rent in advance via Western Union transfer - a big no-no as Gumtree warns against such transfers. A typical example of something being too good to be true!

I answered to a few ads in the dating section, i was pleased when i saw replies from those ads. They seemed genuine but at the end of each e-mail there was something like "click below for pics of me that gumtree couldn't let me post" and links to adult sites at the end of the message.
