Hi
I'm a nanny, and have been using the site for a long time both to look for jobs, and also to keep an eye on what's happening in the marketplace in my area. I have to say that the site is excellent for the nanny community, and I have recommended it to friends on many occasions.
HOWEVER ..
I have noticed recently that it has become "trendy" for people seeking a nanny to put images of their kids in their advert. This is all well and good, and nobody would argue about a small head and shoulders portrait as part of an ad.
Unfortunately, this is not what is happening. Recently, pictures have been appearing in adverts which are ENTIRELY INAPPROPRIATE for a website with open public access. For example, this ad is currently on the site ..

I guess it's down to people to decide whether or not to risk putting images of their kids in scantily clad - swimwear - or in some cases even NAKED poses, on a site, but your posting advice gives absolutely no guidance on this issue, and we have to keep in mind that some people may come to the site as complete beginners, with no inbuilt "common sense" about what is and isn't ok.
Interestingly, you seem pretty vigilant about content for categories aimed at adults (dating, adult services etc), while meanwhile one of the most innocent, but vulnerable parts of the site is becoming a minefield.
Up until now, I've been individually emailing the advertisers where I feel that a pic breaches the simple common sense rules for what you should or shouldn't put online, but really I feel that there ought to be some kind of rule, or control, about this.
Please let me know what you think.

I forgot to mention in my original post.
Being job ads, it's not unusual to see something like . .
-------------
We're looking for a nanny for our two lovely pre-schoolers TARQUIN (2) and HERMIONE (3). We live in a well equipped townhouse with all modern utilities such as dvd players, flat-screen tv's etc, in the leafy splendour of NUMBER 284 POSH ROAD, CHISWICK. My husband works abroad during the week, which means I need help because I'M ALL ALONE AT HOME WITH THE KIDS.
And finally, here's a picture of the kids IN THEIR UNDERWEAR.
--------------
Seriously.
If the pedo's aren't reading, the local burglary crew may well be.
How about NO ADDRESSES IN ADS too ? |

Did you forget to read my post before quoting it, or do you have reading comprehension difficulties ?
You seem to be asserting that posting photographs of naked children in an open website, sometimes in a post which also gives pretty clear information about the location of said children, and even their schedule, is a good idea.
Maybe you could clarify your enthusiasm for seeing these images, as opposed to simple images of the kids faces, or children clothed. Is there something you want to tell us "Justin" ?
What does it take to persuade you that the common sense guidelines that 99.9% of the internet uses, to prevent the abuse of the site by predatory individuals should also apply here ? Perhaps if some kids from one of these ads were actually harmed as a result of someone stalking them from the information they found here, and the admins suffered the kind of inquest the police would inevitably mount, you'd get the idea.
Try thinking next time before you post, and especially before you charge in running your mouth off and questioning someone elses motives. |

The fact that Justin does not find naked kids sexual and you do probably says more about you than him, if I may say so. |

Do you also object to councils putting up christmas decorations in case it offends other religions? If we follow your reasoning to its logical conclusion we will have all children in burkahs (?). Honestly, I agree with Justin they are just innocent children in a bath tub showing nothing at all. Where is the harm? |

considering some areas have stoped doing that and people are considering calling it winter holidays we can rule that out. Plus Pc has jack all to do with posting pictures of naked children onto a fully accsesable site.
Say if the only people who were say "descent" replied to these adds nothing would be wrong but i doubt i am the first person who has had an add replied to with "I'll give you £30 if you suck me off* and i'm not sure i would want people like that having free accses to naked pictures of kids.
If one person posts them like that, some one else may post there own, and it may conceal less, its a bad spiral that can bring alot more trouble.
Plus, is it really so hard for parents to dress there kids before putting a picture up the world can see? |

Bloody Hell - soon they'll be no cameras on the beach as well as no cameras at school sports days or school concerts and plays ... the whole country's gone "inappropriateness" mad. What's wrong with innocent pics of little kids in paddling pools or baths? I doubt a ban will stop paedos or the pictures encourage them. As Lau says, those who find such pictures disturbing or exciting would do better to look within themselves... |
Kids is swimsuits and kids naked in a bath is a tad different.
And yes next time some man gets found with naked pictures of kids on his pc we will just tell him "Look at your self" and not bother trying to shut down the source. |

I can’t believe there are people disagreeing with this! Do you really think there aren’t people who look at a naked pictures of children and get aroused? It happens! They’re called pedophiles, there’s a lot of them out there and the chances are some of them browse nanny adverts.
All PMF is saying is, for the sake of safety, don’t post naked pictures of your children. Nobody’s saying they personally find the pictures sexually explicit or arousing, but there ARE people out there who would enjoy looking at them and isn’t it just safest to consider all possibilities?
Submit pictures of your children by all means, but surely make them head-shots, or at least children with clothes on?
I think some people are missing the original point, which is that if anything, we can’t take any chances when children are involved. |

Parents take naked pics its understandable, my parents did, practically ever person has embarresing naked child pictures that there parents pull out to embaress you.
But they did not post it on the internet, for people to randomly look at for whatever purpose they please. I'm not saying parents shouldn't take naked pics of there kids in the bath etc, i'm saying you shouldn't post it online because there are some very sick people online. |

I can’t believe there are people really worrying about this - I despair, I really do. All this concern about what might be done to a third-party kiddy by a third-party molester supposedly aroused by a doting parent's family photo album shots proudly placed in a help wanted ad... Surely, similar shots can be seen on household products in any supermarket?
How is the potential molester going to get to these kids - who'll presumably be there whether they're pictured or not?
It's sensible not to give addresses in these ads, but for many reasons
Soon we'll have the ALF wanting pictures of unclothed animals banned to protect them from being lusted over by bestiality freaks... |
Al, I understand your point
And in an ideal world you are right
But we know more about the dangers now
So I guess a lot of people are just very sensitive
You can't blame them - as long as they don't get too zealous |
