Hey!
I'll be heading to the UK in 2 weeks. I've been told that I can drive in the UK with my New Zealand drivers licence and it's fine for a year, then you can apply for a uk licence...but the AA have recommended that I get my international licence.....any hints?
Cheers! |

I used to work in car rental and trust me you don't need an international drivers license for the UK. It is however compulsary by law to have it for Italyand Spain. The way to know is if you think the average police man in the country your driving in can't speak English then you will need an international drivers license. All the international license does is translate your license in to other languages for the local authorities.
Hope that helps |

| If you apply for a UK driving licence then you will have to submit you NZ one and will not get it back. I came over with an SA licence and swopped it for a UK one. If I ever went back to SA I would need an international licence.... If you are definitely planning on driving a lot (owning a car) you WILL need a UK or international licence. |
