|
|
I am installing a fixed gas hob above an electric oven in kitchen units. I am aware that: 1) it must be commissioned by a Corgi Registered fitter. 2) that the connection must be made by copper pipe and not a flexible pipe. 3) that there must be a gas isolation valve.
I would be grateful if anyone could tell me if there is any guidance or maximum distance the isolator valve should be positioned from the hob. A convenient place for the isolator is on the wall at inside the back of the sink unit, this would be about 1500cm away from the hob.....would this be permissible?
Your help and guidance would be appreciated. |

Gas work should only be carried out by a competent person | Quote: |

Qualification and supervision
3. - (1) No person shall carry out any work in relation to a gas fitting or gas storage vessel unless he is competent to do so.

Oh yeah, nearly forgot. With your new hob you also received an installation manual, if you read it on page 2 or 3 it will say the following.
"This appliance must be fitted by a CORGI registered gas installer".
There will be nothing written that say's fit it yourself then call in the CORGI guy to come and commission it for you.
Basically it's an idiots guide (to prevent idiots blowing up their kids an neighbours) |

In the olden days if you were competent enough you could have fitted the hub yourself and then get it commissioned by a Corgi registered engineer.
Things have changed since August 2008, where all Gas work must be carried out by a registered engineer. Period!
Any engineer who commissions an installation by any third party can face suspension and revocation of their certificate.
Don't risk it, get yourself a qualified, registered Gas engineer to fit the hub for you. They will certainly know where to postion the isolation valve, which must be easilly accesible and be at a safe distance from the hub |
