| When ads are submitted to Gumtree does anyone check them to be appropriate before being posted onto the site ? There seems to be a lot of inappropriate/scam ads even when these ads are reported they are allowd back on day after day. These ads posted are under pets & general section for animals & birds & clearly scam ads. |

Hi there,
Gumtree ads are only checked if they're reported to us by the community. We have so many thousands of ads placed every day, the vast majority are good, and people want to get their ads up quickly.
However, we do put in place quite a few steps to spot scams and to stop repeat offenders continuing to use the site, so please please do keep reporting them to us.

Oops - you're right.
There was some out of date content in that email - we've fixed it now, thanks for drawing it to our attention. |

Ok then, try this for size:
I post an ad in the personals section. I get an e-mail back saying that it will be published after being checked approved. After a while I look on the site and it is there.
When I next log on it is gone.
On another occasion a personal ad I had been reposting for a few weeks similarly got deleted out of the blye.
1) Why is it deleted after being approved and remaining unaltered? Do you not have a responsibility to self-notify yourself that the ad has been accepted?
2) Why is it deleted without the poster being informed of the fact and why it is? Quite apart from being good manners to inform the person of deletion and maybe enlighten then a little, your failure to relate to members of what you self-proclaim and promote as a "community" violates the concept of a community and is extremely anti-social.
You call this a community? Fine, then relate to us as part of it. |

Hi abey-wisehead,
I'm afraid I don't know the specifics of your ads, so the best thing is to email support@gumtree.com with the ad numbers or your email address and they look into what happened.
We do usually send an email informing you of why an ad has been deleted, although there are some cases where that doesn't happen.

The specifics of my ad are irrelevant and not for discussion because that would distract from the principle of the matter whereby the ad was subject to scrutiny and approval before publication.
Whether the deletion was wholly justified with whatever reason or wholly unjustified, the question remains, how come it was approved and then deleted in the same state it was approved in?
Regarding sending an e-mail giving a reason, perhaps Gumtree should fix things at there end whereby it is impossible for yourselves to delete an ad without first filling in a field giving a reason which automatically goes to the person advertising it. Even if I wholly disagreed with the reason I would at least respect my being treated as a member of a community instead of being facelessly messed around. |
