I am afraid to say that I fell for the scam....however I noticed it was not real when I received an email asking for another £150 because my account had been overpaid! I rang paypal straight away and they advised me that it was a scam and to ring the police and parcel force. I managed to track the item before it left the UK and have been advised that I can claim a full refund for the postage! So if anybody else falls for this ring the parcel force straight away!
Can I just say that I am not an idiot, I studied about phishing at university, my downfall was that I was new to paypal and didn't know the full ins and outs of how payments worked.
DO NOT SEND OUT ANYTHING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!
I have fully learnt my lesson before any of you say so! |

hi Guys,
I habe become a victim of this 'Nigerian' . I have already reported him to Gumtree / PayPal and Ebay. Do you think i should call police as well?? This is what happened.
2 weeks ago i have received this email from the guy called David Forsyth (d_forsyth@ymail.com:
Hello, I was just browsing through gumtree to see if i can get a very good and nice item for a very good friend and a colleague of mine who has just been posted abroad on a training course on Environmental pollution while i am being posted to Asia on a training course on Population so we are into exchange of gifts with each other, and i came across your lovely item.
I want to know if the item is in its top condition,I will like you to help me send the item down to my friend in Abroad on my behalf as i am due to leave for Asia soon so won't be able to receive the item here in the state..I will be offering you 50 pounds for the postage via Royal Mail International Signed For,with p&p, so i will quickly want you to get back to me with the total cost including your pay pal e-mail so i can make payment.
Hope to read from you soon...
God bless.
We have agreed that I will post the good to the address in Nigeria David ensured me then once he gets the postal confirmation he will proceed with the payment (£143 in total) I have sent him the postage confirmation along with the paypal address. I received to pending payments (random £360 amount of money, not £143 which was requested by me) . I couldn't do anything with the money (transfer, cash etc) as they didnt exist. I have sent about 10 emails to David Forsyth and requested for the payment...nothing never happened.
e) in the meantime, today i have received another question about the other item which I am selling via this website from the guy called Paul Jones <pjones86@ymail.com the theme of his email was very similar to the initial email from David.
Hi, Thanks for your quick response,i will be offering you 50 pounds for the postage cost via Register Mail International Signed For, to my Friend who has just been posted to Africa (Nigeria) on a training course as a birthday gift as am on leave to Asia soon and won't be able to receive the item here in UK.. do get back to me with the total cost and your pay pal e-mail so i can make payment straight away
Thanks you for your help and support.
It looks like that's the same person. !!!!
What is your advice on it? I have not lost my items, not received the payment for them. I thought I will let you know about this situation cause this guys is using different emails / paypal addresses and he probably doesn't exist.
Guys, where else we can report this guy? Can anyone advise?
Thanks |

I rang the police and they said that because I had got the parcel back there was nothing they could do!
However I sent 'my' scammer a very nasty email saying that I knew he was a scammer and that he was getting f*** all from me, basically not a very nice one at all (I was very upset at the whole situation!) he then replied saying that he would find me and get the authorities involved and is still to this day sending me emails requesting the overpayment......when in fact there was no payment to me in the first place!! I wish that I googled the guy before I went through with the transaction because then I would have been directed to this site. and so I would advise anybody still willing to do business on the internet to google an email address or buyers name first. thats all you can do....just advise people to be careful and NEVER send anything to Nigeria........even the other Africans don't do business with Nigerians....saying something eh!! |

David Forsyth is now my friend, I sold him a £200 laptop for £590. Of course he never paid and I never sent it but neither of us admit any factual parts of the transaction. I went as far as photoshopping a royal mail reciept with a made-up tracking number and also dreamt up a paypal screenshot with visibility of David's 2nd payment and my repayment of the extra 'moneys'. Highly entertaining.
I've been corresponding with David for a week or so now and it's keeping me and the boys in the office rather entertained. The scam was spotted from a mile away but I went into it with full knowledge and a hidden agenda. Now David gets an over-personal email from me everyday and I'm developing some strong homoerotic feelings for him. The laptop is mentioned on occasion but in this fictitious relationship the scam worked out well for everyone.
Maybe one day David will admit he's a naughty naughty boy. |
