I am so glad I googled the phone number. I almost fell for the below scam. the pictures looked really good and the price was of course too good to be true.
It is a ground floor flat and all bills are included in the rent such as gas, electricity, water, council tax, TV license, internet and sky.
Let me know when you want to come and view my flat, so that i will plan my time here and make sure am there before you arrive.
The only thing is that i need double assurance, because i want to avoid traveling from Birmingham to london in vain, i can afford my fare, but i can't afford to waste my time.
My Lawyer will get a contract ready for you to sign if you like to take the flat after viewing and the keys will be handed over to you immediately after contract has been signed.
Also, receipt of payment will be issued to you after which you'l have to sign the lease agreement form.
I was discussing with my Lawyer about the idea on how i will be so sure that i will not just waste my time to london without achieving my the aim and she advised that we can work out something via Western Union Money Transfer.
She said that Western Union Money Transfer can actually hold the money as an evidence and surety that her tenant will pay her at least for the first month and deposit. She gave me an option on what we can do since you have the funds at hand which will be explained below:
PROCEDURE:
1) Transfer the the amount £1600 ((1 month rent and security deposit) to your friend.
Your Name (as Sender) to your Friend (as Receiver) in London or other parts of UK.
2) Scan & Send a copy of the Western Union transaction receipt as a proof of the transaction or mail me the transaction details. (The money is safe as it is only you that can withdraw since you need a national ID card or International passport)
3) Then, we will meet for viewing.
4) If you decide to take the flat, we will go to any local Western Union office close to my flat pick up the money and pay me. (You don't need to come with cash to view, after viewing we will go together, you will withdraw and pay me)
5) Keys will be handed over to you after signing the contracts.
I am pretty sure that the transaction at Western Union office will require some charges, i will definitely refund the transaction charges back to you upon viewing and if you don't see what i sent as pictures of my flat to you, you are free to leave without paying me anything.
I only want to be sure that i am not going to waste my time this time around and i think with this condition, both of us can be sure we are not wasting our time.
I will only rely on your honesty that you have made the transaction so that i can reserve the flat for you.
Let me know if you are okay with this so that we can proceed. Thanks so much while i will be waiting to read from you and i am looking forward to meet you and be great friends eventually.
NB: PLS DO NOT MAKE PAYMENT TO ME OR IN MY NAME, WHAT I NEED IS JUST AN EVIDENCE THAT YOU HAVE THE CASH TO PAY ONCE YOU HAVE VIEWED.
I am sorry for the lengthy mail, i only want to explain myself better. You can also call or text me on 07588099395 for a chat but i dont receive calls when am at work.
Warm regards and have a nice day.

Hello all...
UNFORTUNATELY for me I found this site and forum AFTER I fell for the scam of my life... I am an American student in Poland and was looking for the hot new HTC Touch HD phone for a good price, and fell upon some scammers...
now not being too scam or net saavy I fell for it as FAHIM FAWLER (dont know if thats his real name or not) gave me a price WAAAY cheaper than retail BUT failed to provide me with any pics of him in possession of the phone so I could know if it was true or not. So he tells me a great price and to send by Western Union to a Kathrine Helm in England. So that I did.
Now what I didnt mention before is the seller is very sales saavy and uses ways to get you to trust him like messaging you online (he used the google talk name Tempest Lord) and messages you for a few days, then says well now you can trust me as we are friends (which I never really fell for as I never met him, I just wanted the phone). So after the payment he says my phone will be there in 2 business days.
Next day he messages me and says unfortunately the courier service said that one unit is too small so we actually shipped out 3 phones and you have to make another payment... this time to Nigeria a man named Mario Raymond. I argued but he broke me...
the story went on for a few days and in the end I paid him and no phones at all or any package showed up as I am still waiting, then I fall upon this site... just a liiiitttle too late. Now Im pissed, lost a lot of money, and got nothing for it but headache and rage for the bastard named FAHIM FAWLER.
Anyone know how to catch these bastards or get the money back? if not then I just want to inform others NOT TO FALL FOR WESTERN UNION!
Dont get me wrong, as a student I use western union when my parents need to send me money in an emergency, BUT DO NOT SEND MONEY TO SOMEONE YOU DONT KNOW!
still waiting for a package... Ill get it in my dreams...
Beware buyers... I even googled Fahim Fawler and it came up on a couple of sites with him selling stuff (kinda how I fell for it) and as a first time buyer, Western Union is NOT the way to go! |

This is the email I get after she poached me by replying to my ad looking for somewhere to stay. She has an awesome cheap flat in Leicester Sq. She even gave me a scanned image of her passport.
Hi,
Thanks for your email. I would have loved to meet you first before we proceed, but I am very busy at this time. I have lots of people asking for the rooms now, you'll have to act very fast if you really want to rent the room.
I'm not in London right now, i'm here in Kent to market some of our products and i won't be back until 2 or 3 weeks. But, i will not allow that to stop your viewing and moving in as i can send the apartment keys to my cousin in Watford, she will come and meet you in London and do the viewing but Watford is about 2 hours from London and she works too, I wouldn't like a situation where she will come down to London and you'll be unable to pay the rent.
I understand and accept that you have to see the apartment before you make any payment, but you need to be considerate as well. You will send the Security deposit and 1 month rent to any of your friends or relative in London and For your own safety,It will be better if you can send it to your middle and last name just to have the receipt(from you to the person) through western union money transfer and send me a scanned copy of the receipt, i will only need to confirm the payment with western union so that i can be sure you have the money and fully prepared to rent the room.
Then, i will have the keys and other necessary documents couriered to my cousin in Watford with a next day delivery as i will not be able to leave Kent now due to my work, If you can do that i will be convinced that you are serious and capable of meeting the demands for i can bet you will like the property.
When i get the proof of fund from you...i will give you my cousin's details to contact her and you can as well do the rent with her when you meet.
I make the suggestion for the security of both of us because i cannot tell you to pay for a property you've not viewed and i also need to know that i am not dealing with a time waster because it cost a little to advertise.
The transfer charges will be deducted from the first month rent you will be paying in cash or given to you on the spot.
I have attached my international passport photo page with this email because you will need to print it out and show it to my cousin so that she can be sure you are the one renting the room. If there is anything you don't get right please get back to me right now as i can access the computer.
Western union money transfer outlet can be located at any post office around.
And i think it will be better if we can chat on MSN my id is levivian013@hotmail.com
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Have a great day.
Vivian.

I cam to know about this scam after we (myslef and diane) exchanged around 3 emails.
This one was different as she asked me to make payment in her name at western union so a person does exist by this name "Diane".
I am pasting the entire email thread below, I came to know about this scam as soon as she mentioned about the gumtree estate agency and when i googled, I found out that there is no such thing and also some other facts mentioned below. Just wanted to waste extra time i had and see to what extent she could go lol.
I have replaced my name with [MySelf] in the email thread.
Hi Diane
I am aware of following since I received your email regarding Gumtree estate agency.
The gumtree-ea website is fake.
They have no affiliation with the real GumTree at all
Gumtree-ea website is hosted on a free hosting company's website (110mb.com - what a shame). Even the page title for this website is "Untitled", consider hiring professionals to prepare a con stage for yourself.
You (and the other person “margaretdrnt”-probably fake too) is using gmail's address and a reply-to email address for -gumtree-ac? huh, you think this is going to sell?
Did you checkout forums? where ppl are talking about all this Glasgow thingy being fake?
There are MANY other things that are very much obvious and I can mention, but I have no intentions of helping you by doing so and that you can successfully fool other people based on that.
I never made any payments and just wanted to see how far you can go with it.
Regards,
[MySelf].

Hi [MySelf],
Oh, so you have made the deposit already, thats fine. We will have to schedule the viewing soon.
Maybe the fax was out for the weekend... I dont know. Anyway you should try it on Monday. I am sure it will work.
Also you can send the receipt to them through email and rest assure, it is quite safe and hackers free This is the way I have sent them all the proper documents in order to start the transaction.
I will wait for the confirmation from gumtree.
Good luck convincing your cousin. I am looking forward to meet you and to show you the flat.
Kind regards,
Diane

Hi Diane,
I tried to fax the western union receipt, fax machine doesn't seem to work (accept incoming calls?).
I will try to call Gumtree guys tomorrow and figure it out(not sure if they take calls on Sunday's). I am not comfortable passing such an information on email, you know there are hackers out there and its a critical information.
Its very much unprofessional of them to not have fax machine work!
Meanwhile if we can still view the property on Monday (Sunday is also ok if its possible for you to manage), it would be great. I will need some time to convince my cousin to take the small room u know .
Speak to you soon.

Hi Diane,
Thanks for your email.
I hate to say this, but i will have to wait until this weekend to accumulate full warranty deposit amount. I have £1000 with me already and have spoken to our current landlord regarding the rest of the deposit amount. Since Gumtree has this policy of full payment (£1480 in our case).
I understand that you must be in a rush and you have another offer ready, but it would be great if we can hold it until this weekend so that I can deposit with western union coming Saturday. Please let me know if you can hold the flat until then, based on your response I'll make efforts to manage the amount.
One question, does the flat have double glazed windows?
Thanks and Regards,
[MySelf].

Hi [MySelf],
The monthly rent will be £980 PCM, with all the bills included(gas,
water, electricity, internet...) and also council tax included.
The second bedroom is slightly bit smaller, than the one in the
pictures, but the configuration is pretty much the same. You will have
to decide who will take the bigger one, I hope you will reach an
agreement about that
The flat is fully furnished and the furniture is almost new as I
bought it last year in November. You have everything you need there,
double beds, sofa, chairs, table, computers desks, even linen,
towels... everything you may need for more than a decent living.
Please read carefully the notification from gumtree. Before we will
schedule the viewing of the flat I will need the confirmation from
gumtree that you have made the warranty deposit as required in the
rental notification. I need that to be sure that you are really
committed in renting the flat and you have the money available.
As soon as I will receive the confirmation from gumtree that you have
made the warranty deposit I will make the trip to London to show you
the flat. I will take the end of the week of and we will have enough
time for the viewing and to prepare the papers.
If I will receive the confirmation from gumtree today, I can come to
London even tomorrow so we will speed the things up a little bit.
Please let me know if there is anything else you want to know.
Kind regards,
Diane

Hi Diane,
I went through the email from Gumtree and have no issues in making warranty
deposit. But before doing that i will need confirmation for following points
and would want to see the flat.
1.. As i mentioned we are going to be four adults (2 couples) and there is
only one bedroom shown in the picture, is the other bedroom identical and of
equal size?
2.. In you email on 18th May you mentioned that "The rent is £245 per
week, with all the bills and council tax included", kindly confirm the total
sum for month and that it includes all the bills.
I can bring the deposit money with me while we are viewing and if the above
two conditions satisfy we would definitely want to go for the flat. We are
ok with the rent quoted and we do not have any intentions of bargaining with
you on it.
Provided the above points satisfy, we shall want to proceed with the
contract. kindly reply at the earliest possible as the flat is only reserved
for us for 24 hours.

Hi [MySelf],
Yes, I know about the advert from gumtree. I have removed it. Some guy
just convinced me that he will surely rent the flat and asked me to remove
the ad. After that he only tried to convince me to lower the rent to under
200 and I cant do that. He proved himself to be nothing but a time waster.
The address is: Chichester Street, SW1V 3LX, London. You can go to
google maps to see the actual location of the flat: www.maps.google.co.uk
About the viewing, I am really looking forward to meet you and to get
to know you better before renting the flat to you, but before that I will
need to be sure that you are committed to rent the flat and you can afford
to pay for the rent. Please dont get me wrong and dont be offended, but I
have been disappointed two times until now by people who convinced me to
arrange a viewing, and in the end proved themselves to be nothing but time
wasters as they tried to convince me to lower the monthly rent. Every time I
made the trip to London for nothing wasting both time and money. Because of
that I have decided to go on with this only through Gumtree Estate Agency.
If you decide to go on with renting the place I will need some
information in order to set up the rental transaction with gumtree. Please
let me know your full name, how many people will move in, when are you
planning to move in and how long do you want to rent the flat for. As soon
as I will have this info I will forward it to gumtree and they will get back
to you with all the necessary details to follow in order to arrange the
viewing, sign the contract and rent the flat.
Please get back to me as soon as possible.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon,
Diane
P.S. I have attached the pictures of the flat to this email.

Hi there,
The flat is still available. I am the only owner. The rent is £245
per week, with all the bills and council tax included. I am not in London
for the moment as I have moved with my job to Glasgow. I am looking for
serious people to rent the flat to, somebody who can take care of it and
maintain it clean and tidy during the rental period.
The minimum rental period is one month, and the maximum is three
years with possible extend afterwards. The flat is finished to a high
standard with wood floors, a designer bath suite with power shower, modern
fitted kitchen. It also comes with: vacuum cleaner, toaster, oven,
microwave, dryer, refrigerator, iron, heater, washing machine, dishwasher,
cable ready, TV set and DVD player, internet connection, and most important,
parking place. I accept small pets.
If you are interested in renting, I will ask for one month rent in
advance, and a refundable security deposit of £500.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon,
Diane

This person is a scammer... that is how I fell for my scam with Fahim Fawler, I spoke to him for a few days in the same way, until he said "trust" n what not. Paid him money and I got nothing in return...

Never trust no one ESPECAILLY ON THE INTERNET thats the last place you should trust someone AND NEVER TRUST WESTERN UNION OR MONEY GRAM never get sucked into the scam people as it will end up only one way you loseing your money.
Use some common sense if it sounds to good to be true it is all of that kinda thing. |

Ann in many years on the net i have yet to see anyone using western union for an honest deal.
talking to sellers is no use, you cannot tell if someone is honest from chatting to them, thats how scammers work, pretending to be legitimate.
when ive exposed scammers they have called me a terrorist unemployed or simply sworn.
they say they are just getting back at the white man even though they do not know the colour of who they are scamming.
when you know the few tricks tho it is obvoius who the scammers are, and they are pretty stupid
what nationality are you, ann? |

Someone just tried the scam on me - fortunately he is a very busy man, he used the same wording in two separate emails.
Looks like he's trying to scam phones as well, here [url=http://www.hallolondon.co.uk/free_ads/for_sale/computing_and_phones_!48/Brand_New_Nokia_N95_8GB_Smartphoneunlocked_~299606.html]here[/url]. |

Ok, not sure what to do. I'm selling my car here on Gumtree and have been contacted by this guy saying that he wants to buy it for his nephew. He's in Italy and he wants to send me the money. I told him that I would take Cash on the day, but he is insisting on paying before.
So should I tell him to pay into paypal??
How could this be a scam... surely I get the money, so everything would be in my favour..... |

When I will see the Western Union receipt i will be sure that you have the money , and when i will see that i prepare my flight to Uk , we will meet ,you see the flat , make the contract and go together at Western Union , you pickup your money back and pay me , anyway , please let me know if you can arrange the payment tomorrow and scan me the copy so i can buy my tickets tomorrow About the deal ,I m sorry because you feel like that about me.Now,if you were me
to rent something, would you take the risk to cheat people and had the police on your door in a few days?????I don't think so!!!I m in this position!!!!Liberty is more precious then everything in this world!!
I am a 50 year old man . I have been married to the same woman for 28 years and we have two grandsons who are successful in their own careers. We are all college educated. I didn't get to this stage in life by doing dumb things. I want to take this opportunity to assure you that there is nothing to be worried about this deal. I would never cheat on you or swindle you!! I have a reputation to protect and a good Christian and I do not want to be imprisoned. You have my word and good faith on the fact that I'll keep my end of the bargain. I have never lied and cheated anyone. I will not risk my career, my freedom and my future for anything in the world! I would rather close this deal with other person than to know that you'll be very stressed hoping that I am a honest person, Your peace of mind is a lot more important than this deal!!!I am not a scam artist, and the last thing I want to do is to rob you.
I am a very honest man in every aspect of my life and like to believe that we have a mutual trust.look I live by the rules ...money for me means nothing in life.
If you try to scam somebody in life, later on life will scam you back.
I promise, you won't be dissapointed. I am a man of my word. You can count on me.About our deal I assume we are 2 mature persons who want to make a fair deal.
I understand you are a little concerned of this situation but this is not the case...I don't sell my reputation even for 1 milion £.....
Thank you

Hi,
I am working in a hospital in Italy and it is very hard for me to come in London. I can't take the risk to leave my new job for a long time and when I arrive in London to see that Ihave come for nothing. I want to be 100% sure that when I will meet you, we do the rent papers then I can come back in Italy.
So to be sure of that look how we can do:
You make the payment from your name and address to your best friend name and address in UK using Western Union for 2 months rent that means 1200 GBP and send me the scanned receipt. As soon as I see the scanned receipt that you have made the payment, I will come in London and you will see the flat and maybe you will rent it. After that, we will go together to Western Union office and you will take the money back and pay me.So all you have to do is to find a Western Union office and wire 1200 GBP from your name to your friend name and send the scanned receipt.I am asking you this to be sure that I will not come in London for nothing.I hope you will understand my situation.
P.S : As I told you,I have a lot of customers interested to rent the apartment. I will reserve the apartment to the first one that provides
me the scanned paper from Western Union. As soon as I have the confirmation from Western Union that the money are available on his name Iwill stop the transactions with the other customers

Well it will just be myself and my partner living there, we are both students and so will be wanting to live there for the very least a year with the option of extending the contract after as we want to settle in london. I am meeting my girlfriend in London on the 4th of August and we will be wanting to move into a flat on the 5th or 6th of august. And so we are very interested to look at your flat as it is exactly the right price for us. if it is still available for the 4th of August we would love to meet up and look at it.
regards, James

Hi,
The rent is 600 £ per month including all bills and the concil tax. I moved in Italy because I got a new job. I work in a hospital and the flat is available and that is the reason for I want to rent it. You can rent the flat as long as you need to stay even for 2 or 3 years. The first payment will be for 2 months(1200£).In case you want it, let me know so we can arrange the transaction. For me is very hard to come in London and if I will come I must be 100% sure that I will not come for nothing. As you can see in the photos everything is new in the flat and the flat is fully furnished, newly refurbished and also benefits from wood flooring. You have internet connection, phone, washing machine with dryer, cable TV and most important parking place. Please let me know what your intentions are....when do you intend to move in? For how long do you want the contract to last? how many people will be living in it and tell other things you think i have to know.
cheers

they are there but
you are confining yourself to leeds and
people are not keen on admitting they have been scammed
on gumtree or any free ads site the majority of scams are
1 accomodation scams send the deposit to yourself to prove to me you have the money
2 ticket scams
3 pet scams mostly cameroon for some reason
4 there have also been instances of overpayment cheque scams for accomodation and goods
5 fake phone or ipod sites china or romanian
I have 3 or 4 fake cheques i could scan and send you if thats any good
people do not like admitting theyve been conned, i helped witha case a couple of years ago on ebay where a guy was flogging weeks in a vacation villa he didnt own, managed to eventaully get his arrested but out of the 6 punters conned two were mad at me cos i'd pricked their bubble, one actually said im getting a hoiday at a/2 the price i got a year ago, well duuh no you are not another one was a policeman. |
