Yeah, I think Leeds is a little too confined...il widen the search, but we need them to be accessible so we can speak to them. We have alot of people involved who know about it and have information, we'r just missing someone who has been directly affected. The cheques may come in handy, thank you.
We have noticed people are afraid or embarrassed to speak, which we completely understand.

That's good you managed to get this person arrested, can't believe people fell for it and were annoyed you caught him!

Its psychology havent you read about people who have been caught with 419 scams once they start giving money they often keep giving it because otherwise they would have to admit they were dumplings.

really? I guess that makes sense... We do have a psychologist we are going to help us with the project and has agreed to be interviewed. Its obviously quite hurtful to realise you have been conned, especially regarding the romance scams, with alot of lonely women hoping and thinking they have found love, then to find out its all a scam!
Thanks for your help and input, hopefully il find some victims who wont mind talking to us and sharing their experience - they will be the key for our documentary.

I'm so so relieved I found this... I posted an add looking for a room and have had quite a few emails from someone I assumed was completely genuine until I received the email below which is a carbon copy of other scams. BEWARE of this user or anything that looks similar:

Hi Holly,

1 - Its a flexible contract which means you can rent the room for both short or long term.
2 - Yes your opinion does count on who you will be sharing the flat with which is why i am renting the rooms one after the other, so that it will enable you choose a person you can live with.
3 - Yes the area is safe for a female to be out alone at night.

Since you are ready to view,i will plan my time here and make sure am there before you arrive.

The only thing is that i need double assurance, because i want to avoid traveling from Birmingham to london in vain, i can afford my fare, but i can't afford to waste my time. My Lawyer will get a contract ready for you to sign if you like to take the room after viewing and the keys will be handed over to you immediately after contract has been signed.

Also, receipt of payment will be issued to you after which you'l have to sign the lease agreement form.

I was discussing with my Lawyer about the idea on how i will be so sure that i will not just waste my time to london without acheiving my the aim and she advised that we can work out something via Western Union Money Transfer.

She said that Western Union Money Transfer can actually hold the money as an evidence and surety that her tenant will pay her at least for the first month and deposit. She gave me an option on what we can do since you have the funds at hand which will be explained below:

PROCEDURE:
1) Transfer the the amount £800 (1 month rent and security deposit) to any of your family members (wife, dad, mum, siblings) or your friend. Your name (as sender) to any of your family members (wife, dad, mum, siblings) or your friend (as Receiver) in London or other parts of UK.
2) Scan & Send a copy of the Western Union Money Transfer transaction receipt as a proof of the transaction or mail me the transaction details. (The money is safe as it is only you that can withdraw since you need a national ID card or International passport)
3) Then, we will meet for viewing.
4) If you decide to take the room, we will go to any local Western Union Money Transfer office pick up the money and pay me. (You don't need to come with cash to view, after viewing we will go together, you will cancel the transfer and withdraw the money to pay me)
5) Keys will be handed over to you after signing the contracts.

I am pretty sure that the transaction at Western Union Money Transfer office will require some charges, i will definitely refund the transaction charges back to you upon viewing and if you don't see what i sent as pictures of my flat to you, you are free to leave without paying me anything.

I only want to be sure that i am not going to waste my time this time around and i think with this condition, both of us can be sure we are not wasting our time.

I will only rely on your honesty that you have made the transaction so that i can reserve the flat for you.

I have been talking to a person over emails for a while now regarding viewing a place. She will only view the place if I put the $ into western union (under whoevers name) and send her the receipt - she lives in Birmingham and only wants to travel to london for serious viewers. I sent an email last night saying "can I just put it in the cancel it 5 minutes later, I would still have the receipt to show you that I have the money". She replied this morning saying "no i need to verify the money, after viewing the property we will go cancel it together".

That sent alarm bells off, trying to get her to call me and I will ask why cant I just cancel it straight away - and give you the receipt of the cancelled transaction. What do you guys reckon about this?

fraid not if you havent lost money they arent interested
and even if you have the chances are they are abroad
all you have is a free email address they could be anywhere

you can forward the email along with the header to abuse@yahoo.com or whoever to get the email address shut down but they just take out another

getting western union to change is the only way
