Besides, dont forget about outsourcing where freelancers can provide qualiative and cheap results

oooh, cheek.
i do freelance on the side (document production/powerpoint presentations) and i generally charge a pretty basic rate for a slick service. least, i like to think so. as its on the side from my main job, i dont have the need to charge high-end dollar.
if its your only source of income though, i suppose it might be a little more cut-throat.
