Hi all!

Firstly I'm a newbie to Gumtree, so if there's anything I should be aware of with regards posting threads here, now is the time to tell me, before I unwittingly make any social faux pas!
Wink

Now, the request...

I've just redecorated my Bathroom, and have got a replacement door from Freecycle, but it's dawned on me that I haven't got the foggiest idea how to remove the lock and tongue block from one door and put it into the replacement door!

This needs to happen because the replacement tongue block (I don't know what you actually call these...) will not match the niche in the door frame, and I really don't want to wreck the door frame by carving extra holes in it, so it's more prudent to just to switch the original part from one door to the other.

However, I don't have the experience or knowledge to do this job, so if there is anyone out there in 'Gumtree Land' who could help me get this job done, please get in touch.

I'm on a miniscule budget right now, as I'm in the process of leaving college and signing on for a while (this being a recession an' all...), although we could do a skillsharing arrangment, where I do a little work in return for getting this job done, if I can't afford your rates!

I live in the Cambridge area, so preferably I'm looking for someone based in that area.

I'll log in again tomorrow (Wednesday) and see what feedback there is for this request.

Cheers all. Confused Wink

Hello,

Cheers for the DIY tips, but it's actually a bit more complicated than just merely switching one lock for another, as they are completely different shapes, as the original door also has a 'vacant/engaged' machanism too, which is why I'm asking for an expert's services, as this requires a whole section be removed from the destination door to accomodate the mechanism from the original door.

There will only be one chance to get this right, and I have neither the tools or the experience to do this kind of job, hence why I'm asking for outside assistance.
