REPORTING ADDS .. WHATS THE POINT

30 adds reported daily for the past 3 weeks....and nothing done about them.....they still stand.....whats the point in having a REPORT ADD bit if nothings done........WORST/LAZIEST ADMINS I EVER SEEN....heres a clue admins...since your all thick.....dundee...www.urlhop.com/r/?VDRLL ...daily.....30 adds.....C'MON GUMTREE ...deal with it....or can you not be bothered...there SPAM'ILLEGAL ...thats against gumtree policy.....any idiot can see that....DEAL WITH IT FOR GODS SAKE...were not taking one add here...theres about 30

no doubt there be admins trying to explain why there not seen...or not taken down...RUBBISH...the truth is...THEY ARE NEVER CHECKED..AN NOTHING IS DONE WHEN YOU REPORT THEM.....POINTLESS

I must have reported over a hundred ads in the last month or so, A lot of them say deleted after a while but who are they kidding, if i can still see the ad,can still get the phone number and email address how on earth is it deleted,when i was contacted by an administrator and i sent him the page by email he still insisted it was deleted and nothing could change his mind. Gumtree is being run by a load of morons, sorry ,monkeys...oh! i'm not sure and i give up.

I reported several and my IP was banned. I had not run an add for a couple of months, but when I tried again after reporting, zilch.

Explain that!

I think you under estimate how hard it is to actually prevent spam. People are probably not posting these ads under the same identity. It comes from loads of different place and no company is capable of making this sort of site 100% spam/fraud proof, no matter how much money you've got.

I check Gumtree in my area everyday. Not every category I admit. It is not hard to do.

There is such a thing as a forum Moderator <cough> I used to be one for some years on site run by a hosting firm. It is the job of the Moderator to scan the ads and delete those not acceptable. That is their job and they only have to do it on given categories. Other Mods do it on other categories.

It is easy to set up automated forum moderation. Places like ALT and oops! and all the others, each of which is a thousad time bigger than Gumtree, do it very successfully.

There are programs which generate email addresses for spam purposes - you most likely have got one from (say) lkdfhei.e-mail.net - they hve no basis so can be easily checked by a commercial forum.

The fact here is that my ad had been accepted, was run once a week for several months and was then banned out of hand. I tried your suggestion of contact and got no reply.

Miso, I run several PHPBB forums, I have a few websites and several accompanying emails. I am only too well aware of spam that comes to me on a daily basis. the tools and techniques are out there - a lot of them free.

I think comparing a forum to a classifieds site isn't the best comparison. Gumtree's user base is probably close to half a million a day across the UK and over so many sections. Gumtree makes money, but probably not enough that they can hire a person to monitor every category. Not to mention all the extra developer work they need to do to meet needs and make a profit. I'm pretty sure they have people scouting the site to remove ads though. But the shear amount of people posting ads that are breaking the rules is probably overwhelming for them.

It's not just spam that's the problem, it's fraud too - and I don't think they're done by bots. Actually, they're done a pretty good job in preventing spam on the forum's now. And they introduced CAPTCHA which is a great step in the right direction. They should apply that to posting to ads now!

I just feel for Gumtree and the work they have to do for a world where so few people can use the service appropriately.

what a load of crap...i've been reporting excatly the same adds every single night....an yet there still on every single night...if the adds are checked.....how do they manage to get through?????????

Actually I've been reporting quite a few ads recently and nothing happens.

Really Gumtree need to start banning email addresses of repeat offenders, and they should also ban web links in Friends & Dating. There's one tosser who's posting over 10 ads a day in Edinburgh Casual Relationships with the same link in all of them. I report them but they are not always removed.

i agree bout the spam/illegal/porno/scam adds....think that gets me is they pretend that adds are checked before the go up..they've oviously no control..they rely on people reporting them...in other words...we do there checking for them...i dont understand why they cant have a few people in each area an sort all this crap out once an for all....you'd think they'd get the hint on this forum feedback...but as usual they come away with"please report adds"...the lunatics have to control of the asylum me thinks ....they just not got the people to check adds an get the problem solved...an yet lots of people would give their time free to help.
