GUMTREE IS NOT PASSING ON REPLIES TO AD'S..
I GOT CURIOUS WHEN I WAS NOT GETTING ANY REPLIES TO MY AD THOUGH PLEANTY OF HITS SO ASKED MY FRIENDS TO REPLY TO THE AD AND LOW AND BEHOLD I GOT NONE OF THEM..
THEY HAVE BEEN CAUGHT OUT! THIS IS NO WAY TO RUN A COMMUNITY SITE IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM.. IT TOOK OVER 7 HOURS FOR MY AD TO GO LIVE TODAY!! AND NOW THEY DONT FORWARD THE REPLIES |

See the thread titled- 'Having 2 problems with ads on Gumtree'.....I was having identical problems as yourself, I was trying to contact a seller about a car he had advertised but I never got a reply (this happened about 5 times in total with different ads) The Gumtree admin fella 'jonin60seconds' told me he had contacted the seller & he had loads of replies to his ad!
I thought it was just my bad luck, until the same car appeared the following week in Autotrader!!....So I phoned the fella & guess what??.........NOBODY FROM GUMTREE HAD SPOKEN TO HIM.
Seems like G/tree will resort to blatant lies to get customers off their back, your post has just confirmed my suspicions, some site innit??  |

Are you sure you spoke to the same guy? Maybe we spoke to different guys. |

Hey there might be an error of sorts on the ad but we wouldn't deliberately hold an ad reply back. Think about it: why would we do such a thing. The whole point of Gumtree's existence is based on people being able to sell things here so its not like we are going to stop people being able to that. |

In the dating sections, a confirmation email is sent before the ad goes live. If you have not seen this email please add @gumtree.com to your safe senders list |

Don't know who you spoke to, but I went to see this fella's car & it is 100% the same car I was trying to contact him about via Gumtree!
There certainly seems to be some problem with the message sending system on here. |

The reason your not getting replys is because the people replying to you have had their email addresses/ip banned. i know this because i was banned some time ago for posting an ad for a friend offer naked male cleaning and was banned for offering sex, im sorry but in my neck of the woods cleaning and sex are very different but hey ho. now a couple of months ago i responded to a couple of ads for something i wanted and got no reply off any of them. i found this strange that none replied and thought it may be down to my emails address being banned from posting ads, i then tried my hotmail email and got a reply from them all.
so if you dont get any replies to your ads its because peoples replies are not getting through because they are banned and most probably dont know because everything looks like its gone through but it hasnt and gumtree only tell you your banned if you message them and ask why your email address isnt working. |

So how do they manage to place the ad then??? Surely their IP/email would have to be OK for them to do so. |

| no i didnt say the ad maker is banned i said the people replying to their ads are. i thought i made this clear by saying my replies dont go through to the people whose ads i have responded to with my main email address which is banned for an ad i made that was apparently breaking the rules but wasnt, but my hotmail address works when replying. |

It's probably because somewhere along the lines you've done something you probably shouldn't have. Whether you realise it or not coming to the forum to have a bitch-fest isn't really going to help you now, is it? Oh sorry, I suppose this is what you mean by "community".
Just e-mail them, ask them if there's a problem and you'll eventually find out one way or another what the problem is.
Gumtree's hosting a site where a lot of user's who aren't fit for society seem to abuse it's service. Unfortunately, if you try to stop the problem, a few innocents get caught along the way. |

I'v tried replying to ads from email addresses other than my own (& on different PC's) so how on earth can these IP's & emails possibly be 'banned'??????.......Besides, I can post ads no probs on here, so my own details can't be banned either! |

| Dave, I think we just have to assume then that people just aren't replying to your contacts. Perhaps you should try a different approach/tone. There are 100s of 1000s of transactions on Gumtree every day. If the contact system was not working, we would know about it from the firey mob outside our building! |

Two point there Jon...
1 - Having spoken to the seller face to face, I'm happy that he did not get my emails. The fact that other posters on here have experienced the same thing (one bod even had friends reply to his ad & received nothing) & having tried from different email addy's & PC with no success does look a bit odd.
2 - What do you suggest as a 'different approach/tone'???......If the only contact means is via email?
I cannot beleive so many sellers are choosing to ignore potential buyers! |

| Hey Dave, I have taken your points and the good thing is they have raised alerts in the tech team so the issue is being looked into but so far, nothing has been found wrong with the system. To avoid going around in circles on this, I'll wait and see if anything comes of the testing because otherwise we are just speculating. |

I have had similar problems. I respond to ads but never get a reply when i do so through gumtree. But whenever anyone has their email adress in thier ad i reply to their email and 9 out of 10 times they reply back.
Maybe gumtree should just stop the unecessary service and let everyone place their emails on their ads, so you can use that to email them directly.
..just a thought
ps - how do i find out if my email has been banned? |

Posting everyone's emails would make an easy target for spammers to harvest such emails so we do it to protect the users from spam mainly. our system is working we have tested it again and again.

Same here.....never any replies from sellers.
Have tried several addresses and still never get an answer, c'mon Gumtree, theres obviously something wrong?
I was 'banned' apparently a while back, but was told that it had been lifted. The bannings are a bi harsh too when you dont even know youve been banned, and then find ads that are pretty off colour who seem to carry on regardless.
My crime? 
I had a website named in my ad, I was looking for likeminded persons into RC model cars....shocking! |

But I have used another email addy, as has my wife who has her own addy, this leads me to believe it maybe based on IP ? |
