Hey boys and girls,
I am visiting London the last week of November and would rather enjoy staying in a private home than in some hostel, even just a couch would be fine! But all I get are Nigerian scammers who try to steal my hard earned money. So what does a decent girl have to do to find a decent room in London for about GBP100-120?
Thanks in advance!

Very few people would rent out a room or couch without seeing the person first. Come over, crash at a hostel, look for accommodation. That's if you're staying here for a longer time.
Also worth a look is talking to people on http://www.couchsurfing.org/
Is your budget for one week or..? |

Hi!
Yes, the budget is for one week. I think I should find something ok with that amount?
I only stay for one week but you are probably right, I would need to say hello first in person before staying.
People at couchsurfing do it for free and are a little bit unreliable, unfortunately.
Thanks for your answer! |

If for a week, your budget it fine
Friends of mine have had great experiences from couch surfing but then again they're 'established' and having talked to people for so long, have made real friendships
Renting a room may be a problem because I don't know how much I'd trust a person who's willing for someone to move in without meeting them. Dunno... |

Thank you for your thoughts. It would probably be easier to stay in a hostel, as I am only staying for one week and I don't want to spend hours of travelling around London looking at rooms.
Btw, I don't mean to scare you... but I fear your cat has an alcohol problem! Everytime you don't look it takes a good sip from the bottle!!! Yay!!

Probably easier that way
I'd also give couch surfing a go, talking to people gives a nice insight on what London is like, what to expect, hints and tips on where to go. If lucky, you'll also get free accommodation

Look at the YHA site rather than independent back packer hostels (as YHA is bound to be cleaner and safer. They have bunks for around £18 per night.
Your budget screams 'hostel' and you've reservations about couch surfing.
You could see if any of the Universities, like UCL offer cheap summer short term accommodation.
Failing that, look at short-term lets on Gumtree but see the stay safe tips and never hand over money in advance. |
