Right, I'll try and recount my experience as bes I can, I have been trying to sell my laptop for over 2 weeks now, so the date and details may be a little off.

First I post my ad, a private sale of my laptop, it goes a few days without any decent response. Perfectly normal. So I try to resubmit, as per the instructions in the confirmation email, quote:

Quote:
Please resubmit your posting in a few days if you are still looking. This will keep your message current.
This can also be done by simply amending your posting and resubmitting. You don't actually have to change the posting, just resubmit.

I wait and nothing happens a day or so. So I delete that one and try to start over fresh on my other email account. No luck there, eventually I do some investigating and apparently it is now gumtree's policy not to allow free reposts. Right, well that their choice, fair enough. I just don't understand why the standard confirmation emails we get still have the above instruction in them, which would run contrary to that. If one of the gumtree overlords could possibly spare some of their valuable time to explain that one to me I would be very grateful.

So next I think, okay I'll buy a featured listing. I buy 3 days, I get a reciept and a confirmation saying the ad will be live soon. There is no ad. Still a few days later, no ad, no email sayin 'we have deleted your ad'. Nothing. I use the feedback form to ask what has happened to my ad and my money. Some days later I get an email form 'David' saying that I will be within 7 days (that was 10 days ago and I haven't seen a penny), and that I should read the posting rules. No information as to why, nothing at all as to how/if I could post my ad in the future. Quote:
Quote:

Hi there,

Thanks for your email.

We reserve the right to remove ads in accordance with our terms and conditions as seen on the website (http://www.gumtree.com/disclaimer.html).

You should receive a refund within the next seven days.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
David

But, at around the same time my ad appears, a few pages in, on the original date I posted it as a non-featured ad. Right so after that I get the standard 'its been 3-or however many- days since you posted would you like to 'bump up' by phone or txt'. Better than nothing, I think, so I send the text, money is taken off my phone. Ad promptly disappears. No email saying why, here's what you can do, nothing, again.

I have tried a fresh brand new ad once more some days after this. No luck. As ever, no feedback from gumtree.

I have still not been refunded for the first or second payment.

I would recommend to anyone reading this to use other classified sites, auction sites, or the old fashioned post office window. As evidenced by my and many, many other similar reports, Gumtree is not trustworthy or responsible "business".

Be warned.

I think the other 1000's of business' on Gumtree would disagree. I see the odd person have problems but that's normal for any company. The forum is hardly flooded with problems with their ad.

Well there's more than a few, which you should know as you seem to reply to every last one of them in gumtree's defence. You don't work for them do you?

i dont work for gumtree but i can count the amount of problems that appear on the forums and can have a guess at te amount of ads they do.

someone with a problem is much more voluable than a happy punter

and you'll note that the problems rarely go on and on because ,i think, when its resolved people rarely come back and say that its fixed now

Well, I should've expected that one... Thanks for you mature answer.

Regardless of what I think of Gumtree- I hate just plain ignorance.

You're telling other businesses that Gumtree is not trustworthy. How unprofessional is that? I'm more likely to avoid doing business with you after that post. I don't see why Gumtree should be avoided by everyone just because you've had problems.

It's like me saying "Watch out guys! Don't come to England - someone got stabbed!"

If you can't respect doing business with Gumtree, I honestly don't see why they should help you now but they probably will...

You've broken the rules somewhere along the line for them to remove your ad. If you haven't received a refund, e-mail them again and find out where the problem is. It's better coming on the forums and making yourself look like some kind of moron.

Me? Oh, that's okay. People have already established I'm a bastard.

Tried an ad for another item 5 days ago, out of curiosity more than anything no luck again. I have made other arrangements for both that and the laptop and will continue to do the same for everything else I used to use Gumtree for. I will be encouraging everyone else I know to do so to, should the subject come up.

Its been approx 4 weeks and I still have not received a refund for either of the payments I made. Not large amounts but money none the less.

hi popple
how is it plain to see?
where is the hate

in my experience if people have problems they tend not to use something not to hate it? perhaps its me

i didnt think the fact that the staff punters were inhuman was so easily seen , they must be reprogrammed immediately.

id be interested in your reasoning

Well, I take exception to anyone being called an idiot droid. Is there something in particular I can help you with or are you just here to vent your frustration?

So is your mission here to just rant or do you have some constructive points for us to help us get things done right. I'm not sure why you are so angry. Ranting on about stuff doesn't help anything, it just raises your blood pressure and puts you in a foul mood.

Lets talk through the issues you are experiencing with Gumtree and we can try and help you

like any company they wont divulge that info to 3rd parties but as he hasnt been back i suppose so.

its the old story if people are happy you never hear from the its the ones with problems who are voluble and quite right too.
but 1 bad apple doesnt spoil the whole bunch
gumtree do 1000's of sucessful trades every day

and you dont get too many complaints on here 1 or 2 a week at present

Yeah I did ask the admins to tell me when they refunded him but they didn't.

We do have a very low percentage of complaints per number of ads posted but that percentage can always be lower!

Well the forum is for constructiveness and getting help on Gumtree stuff, not ranting. Its hard to help someone when they just rant about and create a bad vibe on here. Which point are you waiting for an answer on, you have a few?! Link?

I agree and Gumtree have the most weird posting rules, why for instance do they ban adverts recruiting people to self employed work but make an exception for rickshaw drivers.
And they ban ads for network marketing/MLM opportunities, the mostly regulated by law business opportunities in the UK and one of the few affordable ways of owning your own business and bringing some cash in in these difficult times.
