Hey all,
I'm 24 and about to start a new job in St James's in 2 weeks. I'll be on 25k and am therefore looking for somewhere (preferably a 1 bed) in putney, richmond, clapham or areas close by for about 150pw.
Thing is I'm having trouble finding places. All the ones I've applied to on gumtree have been scams so far. I feel as tho I'm running out of time.
Anyone with any advice on where to live and how to go about finding a place that's not gumtree (and hopefully bypasses agents fees) would be welcome. Any newspapers with rental listings etc? Is 150 a reasonable amount to pay for a 1 bed or am I being too optimistic.
Cheers. |

the fee to register usually acts as a deterrant to scammers. They also hold flatmate parties where you get to meet flatmates and landlords in a pub face to face. |

Of Course, if you look for a 1 bed in putney, richmond, clapham everything you will find is a scam.
Yes you are being too optimistic. With this budget you can probably get a room in a flat or house share. |

Look on findapropety.com for prices that you should expect to pay. Anything so much cheaper than this is more than likely a scam. I've seen a few obvious ones in SW London. Scams tend to be in plush areas.
Unfortunately, some time you just have to use agents if there is nothing from private landlord available at the time that you are looking. |

| £150 is most definitely likely if you search well. Perhaps I was just lucky then but I've got a nice, contemporary studio flat just by High St Ken station. Don't give up! |
