With Cameroon/Nigerian pet scammers using the 070 numbers that trick people into thinking they are calling a uk mobile but infact are calling a international number i figured it may be handy to have a list of the numbers so if anyone googles them they will find this thread and hopefully avoid being ripped off .

Just so people know the gumtree is full of Africans that post fake pet adds (puppies , cats , parrots , monkeys , horses etc) . They will get you to pay via Western Union or MoneyGram , you wont ever get the pet and your money will be lost . These are scammers , if anyone offers you a pet where you pay upfront or pay for the delivery it is a SCAM ... do NOT send money to them .

if you are going to do individual nos you will be there forever

basically if it starts 070 or has a 44 country code prefix
and the 070 it is a scam


you could ask posters to give a phone no. and if its 070 it gets binned

Is there any update on the suggestion i gave Monty that he kindly passed on to "those in power" ? It is in regards to a very clear warning being posted in every pet add ? I provided a link showing another site that uses that to help stop scammers .

It gets frustrating that i have i passed on a few suggestions all of which have been ignored and have seen others make good suggestions that get ignored .

I have been reporting adds since Febuary , it is a losing battle at times , tonight i have something to do at 9pm in which i need to be out by 8.45pm ... i am all ready late because i sat reporting scam pet adds that have been flooded on to Kent and Essex ... so frustrating and every add i have reported will no doubt be live until tomorrow morning .

The term scammers for me is not strong enough and seems to make it ok for them to do this without any action against them .. what they are doing is theft . Each lil twerp that from Cameroon that posts a fake add trying to steal money should be put behind bars for attempted fraud .

Is there any chance i could have the powers to delete adds ? I have been reporting as mentioned earlier since Febuary .. so i know scam pet adds instantly !! . I would happily do it for free and would deleted the fake adds posted on Norwich , Essex and Kent .

Sorry for the rant but it pisses me off at times

why is nothing being done about this its rife on all the gumtree websites, ridiculous its totally wasting customers time and is driving me mad.
