I am a student at the University of Leeds and I am currently planning on making a documentary about 419 scams and scambaiting.
We are looking for people in the local area (Leeds) who have been victims to any of these scams and who wouldn't mind sharing their experiences with us. Examples of 419 scams:
Next of Kin Scams = "xxx died leaving you $xxx just pay this fee to release the money
Trunk box Scams = "$xxx in cash/diamonds/etc in a locked trunk box which you can import to your country just pay legal/shipping fees, etc"
Romance Scams = “ I love you but my daughter is sick and I cannot pay her hospital fees please send $xxx via Western Union.
Cheque/Overpayment Scams = a response to your ad or online auction posting, offering to pay with a cheque. At the last minute, the so-called buyer comes up with a reason for writing the cheque for more than the purchase price, and asks you to transfer back the difference after you deposit the cheque.
If you have fallen victim to any of these, we would really appreciate some of your time to talk to us. We understand this may be difficult for someone to come forward, but we would really appreciate your help so we can bring to light the awful issue of these scams.
