Anyone had experience of using the following IPOD repair service?

David Millbank
Mediatron
38 Broughton Avenue, Richmond, Surrey, TW10 7UQ
Tel: 07507 599 749
Web: http://www.cheapappleipodrepairs.webs.com/
email: davidmillbank@btinternet.com

There is also an inactive account an Ebay shop offering the same service under the same company name.

To date I've waited a month, been given 3 dates when it would be sent back (and hasn't) and had zero response to emails.

This guy is an inactive seller on Ebay with several negative feedbacks posted along the lines of 'not received the item. no communication'.

Anyone else had their electronic item disappear into nothingness?

Ipod's are one of the simplest electronics to repair

as long as you have the few basic tools needed for the job your pretty much sorted and save a huge amount on repair bills

I believe you but I don't have the time or inclination to repair it myself and there seemed to be plenty of repair companies out there who can do it at modest cost.

Having said that, since my ipod has effectively vanished, self repair is looking more attractive...

Have you tried contacting them either by phone or letter?

if you've got no reply I would contact ebay & trading standard

however if you want to get personal i'd go down to the premises and enquiry Smile

Thanks, there's no problem with the phone line other than the person at the other end insists that the ipod has been fixed and will go out in the next post.

This promise has been made on 3 separate occasions for more than a month.

Mediatron is a company that has been either struck off or dissolved, according to Checksure that keeps records for non-limited (sole trader) companies.

The fact that they don't operate a company that is currently trading isn't something they've mentioned on their website...

I have used "mediatron", www.cheapappleipodrepairs.webs.com on 2 differant occasions, and i must say that im very pleased with the service. turnaround was fast and @ £23.99 each, what a bargain.
people are always quick to slag of a service provider, but never in a hurry to praise them. keep up the service mediatron.

According to the company credit report service, Checksure, the sole trader company Mediatron cited on that website does not now exist, it is marked on their records as out of business. "Attempts to contact the business to ascertain the current trading status was unsuccessful on 18th December 2008."

I wish to make clear, to prevent any confusion, that this is a common company name and the thread is entirely unrelated to Mediatron Ltd that who are currently actively trading and have nothing to do with the inactive sole trading company Mediatron which this thread is about.

Unlike Montezuma, I do believe a good company can turn around a repair in a few days and fixed price repairs do not strike me as particularly odd.

I am glad that you haven't received a litany of excuses and promises over a 7 week period, including sob stories and telephone sock puppets. It's good to hear a positive experience as to date, I'm aware of at least 3 disappointed customers.

Hopefully there will be further fulsome praise that will change the public feedback ratio.

hi you said

" I do believe a good company can turn around a repair in a few days and fixed price repairs do not strike me as particularly odd. "

it strikes me as incredible, i cant wait till they bring it out for cars
any fault £100 (opportunity inthe market there)

I'm speaking as someone who has repaired his own ipod in 20 mins
but it cost me £40 ( or thereabouts) for the hard drive only place i could get it was ebay

you simplay cant buy all the bits for £29

Yes, I agree with you but its quite standard for an efficient company to advise of a fixed service charge for labour but communicate an extra hardware costs before proceeding if it differs from the original fixed fee.

For example, a plumber will have a fixed call out charge of £65 that will cover an hours worth of labour but will need to bill the customer for a replacement timer. So far, so normal.

And are you sure that it's easy to get spare parts off ebay quickly and that it just takes a few mins to fit them?

because its my understanding that it takes an age to confirm the suspected fault. Tragically it takes almost a week to get the spare part shipped in all the way from hong kong. Then there's the sheer volume of work on the go. Blimey - the unreliability of 'colleagues' who have to be instructed to drop what they are doing to look up what's happened with something sent in more than a month ago - what are they like, eh?

etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Here is a guide to finding out if you are dealing with a Chav pretending to run a business or a professional business.

1. Do they have a 'council' website?

If they can't be bothered to register a domain or pay a small sum to have a professional website but just use a 'free' website like webs.com, chances are their customer service is about as good as their marketing.

2. Do they operate from a council house?

If they can't afford business premises, live in social housing and therefore have no assets, chances are you are dealing with a chav with a large number of CCJs against their name.

3. Is it their main business?

If they are a bit broke, chances are they have a low paid low skilled job and just want a few quid on the side.

I hope this guide has been enlightening and prevents people from sending expensive objects to a council house full of debtors rather than a professional repair company.

My idea of bargain swift service does not involve a trader cashing a cheque for £23.99 for a £250 ipod that's never been returned...
