Move the friends area out of the partners section as it's obvious 99% of male posters want more than friendship.

Add a new section in the Community for clubs & associations so they can post details of themselves rather than having to post disguised adverts in Friends / Dating / etc

Just two suggestions

There is one serious Pb with Gumtree. Many posts -especially jobs are scums. If you charge them and screen their Ads , Gumtree will be more useful for you and the users

I reckon the colours should change. This puke colour Yellow is gross. Why not make the background a light orange like in the sun on your logo?

You could improve the site by keeping it exactly as it is, but going back to providing a decent level of service, i.e.

a) ensure ads are not lost and appear on the site in reasonable time (e.g. 3-4 hours)

b) respond to emails sent to postings@gumtree.com

I like Gumtree a lot - but it can be very slow for posted messages to appear, particularly at weekends! In the personals section (casual relationships, etc.) the day's postings often don't appear until late morning or midday - and several that have clearly been intended for evening reading don't appear till the following day. This is the major improvement required!

I'd like to know if ebay, the new owners of gumtree (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/internet/ecommerce/0,39020372,39199141,00.htm) are planning to go back to providing a decent service, or if they just bought it to run it into the ground and thereby remove an alternative to ebay.

Feedback would be nice. Replies to emails or posts in the feedback section.

We understand that you can't police the site 24/7 and answer every single petty complaint, but all we see is people asking questions and making suggestions with no answers or feedback.

We've not even got a single answer in this thread.

Don't mean to moan guys, the tree has been the lifeblood of a lot of us, but that's what makes it all the more annoying when the faithful users feel like they're being ignored.

Gumtree has a new gay flatshare section for vacant rooms but no entry for self-contained flat/houses offered.

what about a nice chat room. all teh best ones have gone, yahoo, msn. not been in one in ages as none had the quality of msn and yahoo. Gumtree is massive and deserves a chat room for verified members only. stop the little wankers spoiling that to.

PostPosted: Mon Mar 27, 2006 4:10 pm    Post subject: Ban jobs offering or wanting cash in hand work Reply with quote

The Gumtree doesn't do itself any favours by encouraging illegal employment practices by allowing the posting of Ads by employers and employees who want to evade paying taxes through 'cash in hand' work.

It should consider rejecting the ads rather than being known as a place that facilitates it. It should monitor more closely this kind of advert to prevent them being published.

Cash in hand work encourages employers to rip-off their employees.

It encourages job seekers not to put anything back to the country that hosts them and the services that they use.

It aggravates anti-immigration sentiments by pandering to racists who insist that visitors come here to rip off this country.

It encourages people to go underground when their visas expire and makes it tougher for other people to visit because visa requirements and immigration controls get tougher.

It encourages criminality because if a person doesn't feel obliged to pay tax, why would they feel obliged to pay for any other goods and services?

I think to have gumtree by county e.g. Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, etc will be very usefull and also the regionwise e.g. South East, south west, Midland, etc.

Thanks

Well said...they don\'t care. Maybe people should bring it to the attention of immigration.

They actually encourage people to sell stolen animals on their site. Take for example dog napping which is becoing a problem in London...some of those dogs find themselves on gumtree. You also find people giving up dogs for adoption only to be sold here. If anyone is looking for a dog to adopt please go to a shelter or check out

I use the gumtree all the time (flats, for sale, relationships) and it is fantastic. Only gripes are that ads take too long to appear on the site, and, I've just discovered, when you re-place an ad, it is taken off immediately but not put back on for hours! This is annoying as leaves you with the choice of leaving an ad on, a few days old, or updating it but having it off-line for a few, possibly vital, hours.

Keep up the good work though.
