Amen - have had exactly the same problems - and please don't say 'check out the faqs page' because its dosen't cover everything.
My ad didn't appear at all.
I want my money back - who can I speak to about this? I'm sure Gumtree/ebay is legally bound, in some way, to provide a customer with a decent method of feedback/enquiry. I should hope they are treading dangerous ground......would love to hear anyone elses experience lately...I know I'm not the only one whose come across these types of problems.......and apparently it used to be soooo good!! Come on Gumtree.....if you want to make the money - its there!! But you have to provide a decent service...... |

Hi Justme (and others),
All the possible reasons why your ad would not go live are covered in the FAQ page. Honestly. It may be that it breached our policies in a way you didn't realise?
If the FAQs really don't answer your question, we can provide customer support by email. Our customer support email address is on the FAQ page; you just have to look carefully!
Registering on the forums would also make it easier for us to contact you if you have a problem.
Hope that helps. |

It would be best if people had to register, with a valid email, in order to post in the forums. There are faaaar to many racist bigots spreading bile about with impunity. I feel they'd be less inclined to do so if they thought there was a chance they could be more easily tracked and prosecuted.
This would make for less pointless arguments and less people being offended.

| I think that you need to show a clear definition in the jobs section between temp and perm work. I am finding it difficult to search for temp work as most ads are not clear on what type of work they are advertising for. |

Hello,
My name is Lee
I’d like to say first that your site is Great, useful and serve its main purpose - get people together!!!
I am a professional musician and use this site mainly to advertise my music lessons as well as get in touch with fellow musicians and get my students in touch with bands.
I have to say that the exposure was huge!!! However, recently you’ve decided to move it under “Miscellaneous”. I understand the idea behind the move and agree with it, I use it for business purposes, however the music section is DOMINANT by people who advertise business, from D.j’s to hiring studio’s, or musician that offer their skill in exchange for money …. They all trying to advertise their services, why not open a sub category under Band/Musician/D.j’s that would direct people to music tuition? Or say ‘’Music Services” it is much more suitable to be among those then among “Stop Smoking Now ...” or “Events in London with a different Flava”….
I’m sure that a person that would look for bass lesson would find it easier to look under “Music section” then “Miscellaneous” and beside, this is a great part of the community, the fact that I was contacted by so many people through it just make the point that they went to the site for a reason , and I was there for a reason , we all part of the community !!!
What do you think??
Many thanks for taking time in reading this email
Keep up the great work,
Lee |

Hello
Gumtree is great but now spammers are also trying to be great here
Actually i was looking for web designer, and found one company www.grafika-web-design.com His ads are every where and he also posts LEGAL adverts in SERVICES category. which should be a big NO NO
Please can you do something to stop spammers, like this ad doesnt suite in Services section http://www.gumtree.com/london/51/4765351.html
www.grafika-web-design.com , he is posting same services with different ads in same date and same category.
He must be a Ph.D. in Spamming and violation ethics of goodness.
Please stop spammers
Big for Gumtree and all who respect its Terms and conditions |

| YOU COULD DEAL SWIFTLY WITH POSTERS WHO SPREAD RACISM AND ANYTHING WHICH COULD BE CONSIDERED TO BE IN YOUR FACE NONSENSE.......THAT WOULD BE A FINE START TO A BETTER SITE. I LIKE THE FORMAT OF GUMTREE AND YOU WILL NOTICE THAT MOST OF THOSE WHO COMPLAIN ARE GUESTS WHO HAVE NEVER JOINED IN ANY EVENT. |

Speeding up the time it takes a advert to appear would be great - which could quite possibly be the best thing gumtree could do.
I wouldnt mind seeing some sort of counter system to see how many times a advert has been clicked on (like ebay) |

What I would like to see in the accomodation sections are the following:
1) the ability to restrict the dates accomodation is available. for example, if you have to move before a certain date, filtering out unwanted results is a good thing. So, be able to restrict moving between a certin start period and a certain end period
2) better filtering options for the area. For example, I would want to live in south west london, and that includes properties north and south of the river. Searching south and north is a pain.
I realise this would require classifying an area as South west. this does not always work with regards to Postcodes (you can't just assume that SW is south west, even though it almost always is)
What would be fantastic is a way to classify which areas you want. I.e. a point and click over a varying number of postcodes, and then allow for some leeway.
3) an easy to find post-code to location on map translation. Not everyone knows that W7 is the furthest out post code of the West post codes (sort of like the second idea in point 2 |

hi, It would be useful if you had a search engine for searching all of gumtree UK.
As it is rather time taking if you have to search on all the gumtrees sepratly.

I have a few considerations that I hope will help. I hope you can accept the points made, even if done so in rather passionate language. It is something about which I feel very passionate.
• My number 'frustration' with any website is not having a link on the front page with which to contact the editorial team regarding a technical error with the website. In the instance of this website, either to do with a listing currently there, or a listing I may have set, or some other technical problem that I need to speak to someone about.
• So there must be a point of contact, and preferably resulting in a personal response such as the positive ones I have had in the past with gumtree and not the appallingly inept impersonal "quasi-personal" 'customer service' that is now offered by www.ebay.co.uk. (Sorry, but it's true. It's one of the reasons I rarely use ebay).
• To explain: one of the reasons I believe many people moved from ebay to gumtree - apart from the obvious in the fees - was that gumtree had much more personal feel, such of that of a local community, rather than the corporate impersonal feel that ebay had come to adopt.
• Issues on gumtree were either resolved on the spot or very quickly, and there was never a "you are x number in x queue and we'll try and get round to you" followed by an explanation copied straight out of the help files, preceded and followed by "we hope we have helped you because we aim extraordinarily hard to make the customer feel like the most importnat person becasue after all without your business, we cease to exist".
• Gumtree actually spoke to people like people they worked with - my office emails with respected friends are written in a similar way. In short: my recommendation would be that it must be structured such that these key features which attracted the customers, remains.
• If the key features are not retained, the likelihood is that *another* 'gumtree' will spring up, to offer the original services that people flocked to gumtree for in the first place. This is not to critcise the offering that a merger can bring, but to highlight the weaknesses that must be avoided, in order to help make it work better.
And there really needs to be a way to contact your editorial team. What is it? |

This has to be done as there are about 20 posts a minute in the Guys Seeking Girls thread. I suggest seperating each post into the area in which the postee lives, I.E East London, South London, North London etc etc.
This could also be done for the other catergories but this particular categorie needs it the most!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do this as it would help EVERYONE!
I love the site by the way!

Hi Applet,
Thanks for your comments, both the positive ones and the suggestions.
If you need to contact us, our contact email address is at the bottom of the faq page. We now get so many hundreds of daily emails that we put together a frequently asked questions page to save people time waiting for a reply - but if questions aren't answered there it's easy enough to email us on the same address it's always been - support@gumtree.com
Cheers! |

| i know theres a keyword search but it doesnt always filter results correctly, in the hotel/bar/catering section at least could we have a live in jobs section, or when posters advertise their jobs make it clear whether the job is live in or live out, as this could save alot of time, hassle, and money on phone calls! |

HI GUMTREEE, I HAVE A PRETTY SIMPLE IDEA WHICH I THINK WOULD BE A GREAT EDITION TO YOUR WEBSITE, I LOOK FOR THINGS FOR SALE ON YOUR WEBSITE EVERYDAY BUT I ALSO CHECK OTHER AREAS WHERE IM NOT FROM KENT,WALES ECT ECT IT TAKES A VERY LONG TIME AND IT DOES PISS ME OFF TO BE FRANK. IF YOU ADDED ONE MORE EDITION TO THE BASE CALLING IT (UK) SO EVER ADD IN THE UK GETS POSTED UNDER IT. YOU COULD EVEN DO ONE CALLED (EU) I THINK YOU SHOULD UNDERSTAND BY NOW. I REALLY HOPE YOU DO ADD IT.

|
|
Hello,
I have looked around and still cannot seem to find a place to e-mail you direct, I know their is one but for the moment I am just going to have to post here. Please can you put a Homeswap section on the Norwich Gumtree? I know I am not the only person looking for an exchange to Norwich but as of yet their is no section to post in. The section on other sites for homeswap works really well. It would be a valuable addition to the Norwich Gumtree and without it their are very few places for people to advertise to exchange their property.
Thanks

|
|
Hello Gum bosses,
I just noticed that you've changed the shade of green text for posting titles.....and i believe it is for the worse....
...Firstly the dark green was bold and much easier to read...
....and secondly its now more difficult to tell if you've read a certain post previously as the colour it changes to once its been opened before is very similar to when its unread.
Just hoping you could change it back...or change the shade....anybody else agree?
PS - congrats on how quickly the website is growing. |

Hi there! As a person with some colour blindness, it would be REALLY helpful if you could change the colour of the links to a completely different colour. At the moment when I click on a job link, the colour goes from a green (?) to a pale green/blue (I think). If it would change to say, red or orange, it would be quite clear which links I have already visited.
Many thanks, HJ52 |

In London Gumtree, this section is split into Guys => Girls, Girls => Guys etc. In every other Gumtree there's just one section for all. Please do to the other regions what has been done to London
I know there's not a high volume of female posters in this section, but I think there is even fewer due to being buried in the number of male posts.
I know these ads have a shady reputation, try and make it an easy to browse shady reputation! |
