Hi
this agency is time waster and not serious.
I was interest in a place to rent with 2 conditions:
1. available in january
2. accepts pets.
When he called me I ask him and the answers were that the landlors has no problem with pets at all and he's willing to wait till January "if he will like us".
following my correspondence with the manager John Caplan.

we went to see the property and the landlord said that (as written in the contract he has with you) that he doesn't accept pets at all and he's not willing to wait till January (as we requested) in any case ( you told us that if he like us he'll be willing to wait).
Please note that money and time have been spent today in seeing this irrelevant property.
How can we get a refund for this?
thanks
Teresa

"How can we get a refund for this?"
You can't, as far as I am aware, but you can take this up with Citizens Advice or Shelter for a definitive answer.
Landlords can rent their properties to whom they like so long as they don't fall foul of the discrimination laws that protect against racism and disability discrimination.
You didn't have a contract with them, so you aren't entitled to compensation. If they hadn't changed their mind on the pet front, they may have just not found you suitable in other ways. |

Look, it's a great shame that the agency or the landlord they represented wasted your time and if their communication was better, you'd have avoided this unecessary inconvenience.
But agents and landlords get lots of timewasting tenants, too, and don't bill them for viewing it without accepting the property. One of my friends who rents properties is always amazed at the number of tenants who can't provide a reference from their previous landlord, as sadly, they've just died...
Who knows if 'pets allowed' was fine for a cat or a hamster and found disagreeable when presented with 5 dobermans.
Good luck on your accommodation search and I hope your next visits have better coordination between landlord and their agent. |
