PMSL @ that, typical response. well if this site was run properly there would not be any need for anyone to 'moan' as you put it. The fact that there is many complaints speaks for itself.........or is that gone way over admin/mods heads....in a word yes.
Its the name your after & your all still playing at being admin/mods & not putting any work in. |

its a shame the Posting Rules are not enforced more often!
numerous estate agents advertise their business into the property category everyday (London), i report them everyday, Gumtree remove the ad and the following day the ad is back up again!
maybe Gumtree should ban the persistent offenders which is what your Posting Rules say should happen.
these agents should be paying, to post ad's which advertise their business, into the services category..so Gumtree must be losing a huge amount of money, yet they don`t seem to care at all. |

Hey Loopy, thanks for your feedback and thanks for reporting the bad ads.
So actually what you are saying when you think about it is that we do enforce our rules because every ad you reported has been removed but the advertisers just put them back up again the next day so we remove them again. So we are actually doing what we need to be doing!
we do ban persistent offenders but due process means that we need to give them a few warnings first |

The ads are not always removed though, sometimes i need to report the ad more than once and email it in aswell before it's removed.
I guess the, sometimes, slow reaction is due to the number of reported ads that you guys are needing to go through..which in itself should tell you that something more needs to be done.
I have been reporting the same estate agent advertisements for almost one year so i think Gumtree would of had plenty of time to issue warnings..yet the same people post the same ads everyday so Gumtree is clearly not banning people.
Something i neglected to say is that in the end, after 6-8 months of reporting a friend of mine contacted Ebay Headoffice who own the group that now owns Gumtree and they were very interested in the ads reappearing everyday and she now lists these ads and passes them to some senior guy at Ebay (at his request) who is compiling some kind of file..
At the end of the day, the estate agents which advertise their business everyday into the Property Wanted categories are losing Gumtree money, because the adverts should be in Services category and should be paid for. So, the only way of getting someone to look at this seriously was to contact the people who actually own Gumtree, after all you wouldn`t be happy if you brought a company which was losing out on income.
I realise that the many admins/mods do their best but to be honest it just isnt enough. And the short responses you get from Gumtree when you email in just goes to show that nobody there is actually bothered at all. |

| Yeah of course we're bothered mate otherwise we wouldn't have this forum and I wouldn't be chatting to you. One of the projects I am working on is a comms re-evaluation so basically looking at how we can better respond to our community. After all this is a community site and we want to look after you. |

Hi jonin60seconds,
I had to rub my eyes when I read that last sentence and check who wrote it. No way could that have ever been penned by m****z**a.
Funnies over. Serious question for you now jonin60seconds. I ask you because I know I will get a half decent answer that does not insult me. And better still, you have great English language skills for Gumtree, which is a rare thing these days.
Q1). What exactly constitutes an "Advert" as opposed to a "Chat" within the Music & Arts Forum. Because I have been treated in an uneven way several times this week by one certain over zealous Stalinist style moderator. My post was removed several times. So to test a theory, I twice copied other musicians'/bands' topics & messages, made my own post but substituted a few names, and low and behold, only my posts were deleted, and the other musicians' topics remained. So, this quickly told me I was being victimised.
What's your answer to that then?
Q2). I got accused of putting up an advert claiming I was going to "pay" musicians - that's what the moderator "guessed", when the fact of the matter was that there was absolutely no mention of the word "pay" in my text. I was not selling anything nor offering a service to buy. I only asked for interested musicians to get back to me for a chat. Surely that's a "Chat" not an "Advert" isn't it?
What's your answer to that then?
Q3). How exactly do you police the Police in Gumtree?
What's your answer to that then?
I might be called BassPlayerJob and have those same words in my email address, but that is simply an easy way for Bass players to remember it.
I am not an employment agency. I am a musician looking to contact Bassists and chat in the Music & Arts Forum.
You have to welcome musicians onto the Music & Arts forum. But with this treatment, it simply gets your back up. It's absolutely ridiculous.
ps. Please m*****z**a, I just don't want your answer thanks. This is just for jonin60seconds. |

Hey!
Q1 - This is a very good question and I actually had a discussion about your case with the mods team yesterday. It seems to go into a grey area on the rules of advertising. Personally, I am fine with people advertising for other band members on the Music forum, what I would not be cool with is advertising gigs / cds / merch etc. and I think this is the rule I may apply here. It does however make it difficult for mods to have different rules for different forums. Monty, in his defence was simply applying the letter of the law. He can be a bit strong sometime but you get used to him and without him, the forums would be in a mess!
Q2 - I think my answer above answers this really. Of course I'm OK will band members wanting to chat with eachother
Q3 - Well I can't answer to the full details of how we do things else the spammers will figure out some loopholes but as a team you have me as the head of social media, then I have a brand new moderation team that is 5 members strong and we have 2 community moderators who are people from the forum that look after things on a volunteer basis. Monty is one of these. |
