Quitting is a lot easier than people make it out to be. I quit cold turkey and it's been 3 years almost.

For some, yes. Not all.

I quit cold turkey last year for 8 months. I could've quit for good but I didn't want to, really. Those were the most miserable 8 months of my life and I like smoking, dammit!

That is the point - you will never succeed unless you want to. Those that really want to can go cold turkey. You didn't quit for good because, in your own words, you didn't want to.

Why did go through the charade of quitting in the first place?

The worst reason in the world - to please other people.

My post wasn't actually in relation to the comment I quoted, it was just a general response to the thread - hence the big gap. Maybe should've made it clearer.

Giving up fags is a lot harder than people think however going "cold turkey" is a total diffo ball game all together as anybody unfortunate enough to go through it will tell you..or maybe they will just ask ya for twenty quid to sort themselves out ...who knows eh?

Im in the process of quitting after 10+ yrs of smoking. I find using the nicotine patches stops the cravings, but its the habit that you have to avoid, i.e having a cig with a cuppa tea in the morning, you need to be doing something different.

Its working for me at the moment, okay maybe ive had the one or two cigs here and there but im confident that i can quit if i just break my habits.

dont let the cravings in the morning put you off putting on a nicotine patch, its happened a couple of times to me.

good luck

As far as I understand it the pysical craving goes very quickly but it's the habit that it trickier. Nothing but will power works then.

My great uncle quite smking after 80 years. The moment he decided to stop he never touched another one and nicotine patches did't exist then.

good on him, if only we all had that level of will power...I sure don't, but we've got some good methods to try in this day and age. Dont give up giving up, or whatever it is Smile

Yeah - it's a pity they can't bottle will power. I could use some to get me to the gym more often.

My will power is great at taking me to the pub though!
