Please be aware of cheap Rugby tickets for the Six nations. I have just been scammed for £240 for 4 tickets to England v Wales on 2nd February 2008.

Whatver you do never send any money for anything using Moneygram or Western Union.

Details for the fraudster, whether true or not are :

Name: DANIEL LEE JONES
Address: 6 Parkway Terrace, Glasgow, G3 7SD
Tel: 07787 758781

He will always give excuses as to why he cannot use Paypal and that he doesn't have a passport etc. DO NOT TRUST HIM!

He will even call you and talk to you all about the Rugby World cup and how him and his mates always go to the Six Nations etc. and his brother works for the Welsh Rugby Union that is why he has a ticket allocation. He will also offer tickets for other games at reasonable prices England v Scotland with coach etc. AGAIN DO NOT TRUST HIM!

I have reported this to the police and Gumtree Admin, but just thought I should warn others so you don't lose your money trying to get tickets for the Six Nations. Evil or Very Mad Sad

GTS Shipping.... I have had a couple of different sellers offer me tickets that are supposed to be sent out from www.gts-shipping.com.

Their scam is quite cunning, because they ask for your mailing address, and immediately send you back a "tracking number" that you can plug into the GTS site, and which returns the very item you are supposed to be buying, along with your details and the seller's details.

The website is a complete sham, a rip-off of another website, and the telephone number attached to this "American" website gets answered by a teenager with an American access who claims that their house doesn't know why they are getting these calls, because they are in Belgium!

Any emails from sellers that read:

Quote:
HI,
The price for all 4 tickets is £240 including shipping and handling taxes. The delivery will be done via GTS Worldwide Overnight Express and it will take no more than (1 working day inside United Kingdom). To see more details about this shipping service please visit www.gts-shipping.com. I have a friend at GTS who will manage me a low price shipping and I assumed that it is from me to pay for shipping it. The tickets will be delivered directly to your address.

I will now try to explain to you as clear as I can the entire process.

You will make the payment and you will give the details to GTS Shipping Service. You only need to notify the GTS that the payment has been sent. GTS will verify if the payment is done in a secure and correct way.

After 1 days, when you'll receive the tickets, you will have a few days inspection period before GTS will release the funds to me.
If you're satisfied, you'll contact GTS and they will forward me the cash.
I hope I made it clear!
Please let me know if you're interested, so that we can move forward with this deal!

If you accept e-mail me back with your full details (full name, full shipping address, phone number) so I can make all the shipping arrangements. The tickets will be shipped as soon as possible and I will e-mail you back with the Tracking#.

Thank you

The next email begins the request for Western Union payment, giving you the tracking number details.

Despite the GTS website saying it has links with Paypal, the seller won't tell you what Paypal address to use, or give you the Paypal address for GTS - so it is complete rubbish that this is acting like an escrow service.

SCAM ALERT!

Hi,
The TV is Brand New , in box with 3 years full warranty. Of course that
it cames with a PC input at the back. The delivery wont cost more then
15-20 pounds. For we can both be satisfied and having no problems the
transaction will be made using an escrow service , DHL Third Party only
if we have a deal. An agent will keep your money untill you receive
and inspect the TV. Let me explain you how it works: I go with the TV
to an DHL Depot. They will inspect it and contact you with an invoice
regarding the condition of the product , Delivery and Payment details.
Anyway it would be better if you have those money in CASH. After they
contacted you with that invoice you have to make the payment to their
agent; he will hold your money untill you receive and inspect the TV. As
soon as you confirm them that the payment was made they will proceed
with shipping and contact you with a tracking# number. After you receive ,
inspect and confirm them that you are satisfied on it and all
is Ok the Agent will send me the money. If you dont like the TV you
may return immediatley or in 15 working days. Seems fair to me ....
If we have a deal please let me know your full name and adress and i
will start the transaction right away.
Thnx

He sent me the details and the DHL Note...

However... ALL the links on the page went to the wrong place. The banner took you to UPS and not DHL. The images were taken and linked off images.google.com and further more, the person you're paying is in ITALY.

Once you pay via Western Union, within 10minutes, your money can be collected and it's gone.

There's a lot of fraud going into Italy at the moment. Be careful! Make sure you check the email thoroughly.

I've been trying to find a department to submit them through for fraud, but can't find anything in London that will help!

It's a scam, just looking at the add.

It's a cut & paste block of text, likely stolen from a computer shop website.

No details about the seller, or why it is for sale?

Rolling Eyes

I bet its a good deal.

Remember - Western Union, Moneygram - walk away.

Hi there,
I'm new to the gumtree and I've been a total idiot.
I got given a small amount of money for christmas, and then stumbled on a load of adverts for cheap PS3s on the gumtree.
One guy said it was an unwanted christmas present. He had photos of it layed out, so I asked him for his phone number so I could talk to him about it, and he seemed decent enough but said he was based in nottingham so would have to post it down to me in cardiff.

Firstly - I've been such an idiot. I should never have paypal'd him the money. If he was genuine I should've driven up there to meet him and collect it in person.

So basically I was scammed for £200.
Please don't ridicule me - I already know how much of an idiot I am.
I just wanted to post this here to warn other people who might've been looking at offers that are 'too good to be true'.

I'm pushing paypal to try and get my money back, because I understand that they protect me against fraudulant situations like that. I have a screenshot of the advert which includes the email address I sent payment too, so hopefully there should'nt be any problems with that. I just wish I hadn't been so stupid

Did you pay via Paypal, and not something like Western Union?

Did you recieve a "PayPal" email, or did you log in from the main site yourself?

I logged into the main Paypal site and paid that way.
Why is it if you try to report an ad on this site, it wont let you do it?

No........ not a credit card!
This is the first time I've regretted getting rid of them.

Ah!

What does PayPal have to say about all this then? I suspect it's going to end badly, with thie person having zero money in their account, and probably fake details to sign up for it.

I've raised the dispute with Paypal.
Just waiting for them to investigate.

Is there any contact to the Gumtree moderators/owners?
There terms etc state that they will pass on details of advertisers to the
authorities if an advertisers has acted illegally, but there seems to be
no way of contacting them!?!

I'm presuming that they mean, if the authorities ask them. Confused

You could email them here. It's in the FAQ "I've been the vicitim of a scam" - here.

There business adress is also listed here, so you could write to them.

Direct email (from "report a post" link) is: forums@gumtree.com <forums@gumtree.com>
