Extremely interesting reading.....I work for a recruitment agency that specialises in IT and Engineering / Construction. We will happily sponsor anybody that has good skills that we can place with our clients, the Dept Of Work & P in Sheffield charges £150 for us to process a work permit although we go for Tier 2 applications (rare skill sets in the UK).....we do NOT charge our applicants ANYTHING at all (as we get a placement fee from the client). There are no laws against actually giving out work permits, you just have to follow the guidelines. What we ask our applicants to provide is the the last 3 years references (on headed paper) copy of passport signed by a Justice Of The Peace and copies of education certificates (again signed by a JP). The whole process at the moment is taking 2-3 weeks to turn around. If people are charging £1,000 that means they are pocketing £850 for their time which is a rip off....the forms take 25 minutes to fill out....I know because I have bee doing these applications for 7 years.......this obviously doesn't apply to everyone, only those with good skills.....Hope this has given some of you some help....

i totally agree with you and your posts.

unfortunately, i am in the same situation as most of the people here. im looking for a job, have tried to ask some to sponsor but havent found luck yet.

is it ok if i send you my CV. I'd like to ask if you think i can really get a company to sponsor me a work permit. i mean, if my qualifications fit here or im just wasting my time. i believe you have been in the Uk for quite some time now.

I dont think I will qualify for an HSMP approval. A company sponsorship is my only key.

Thank you.

I also admire you for your concern to the slightly gullible ones.

Cheers.

I have read a lot of the previous replies and I understand about visa's.
I am trying to move to London. I already have friends there and even a place to stay, I just need to find a job.

My problem is finding a company that will sponsor me. I dont mind doing the leg work, but I can not seem to find a company that will give me a chance. Unfortunatly I am not in IT, I have a degree in marketing and have been working now for 2 years. I unfortunatly do not qualify for the HSMP which would be the best option for me.

If anyone has advice on companies that will sponsor someone, I am all ears!!

hi Cem, since you got the visa I just wanted to ask you something. I received my confirmation letter from work permits UK, now I'll go to the consulate for the visa but they are asking:

Originals + a copy Valid Work Permit [Originals + a copy] and a letter of confirmation from WorkPermits UK [Originals + a copy]

I just wonder what this "Valid Work Permit" is..

do you have any idea?? or any suggestions for what is waiting for me in the consulate..

thanks in advance...

AVI - great advice, it took me over £2,000 to find the right company. I have an MBA from Florida State, which I was told would help me to find a good job. I did find a job but they wanted me to do the running around for the ork permit.

I wanted to do it on the cheap and decided to do the papaer work myself after reading a lot on information and getting tips from people who'd been through the process. I gave all the information to my potential employer and the application was refused - the company then dumped me.

I went to IAS as someone above mentioned, and three different people gave me conflicting advice. A flat mate said she heard a company called Breytenbacs (or something like that) was good. They charged me to see them and their advice was terrible.

I did find another employer willing to get a work permit for me, but again I had to do the running around. The company made the application and it was refused based on advertising.

I did find a company who are absolutely brilliant and somehow got the refusal overturned - I have recommended lots of people to them. I want to mention their name but I don't want this to seem like an advert by them.

All I will say is there are many employers who will give you a chance, but they are hard to find. There are many agencies out there, but few who give honest and clear advice (and for free). I have now been here for two years and I am having a great time.

As for the IAS, I think the person who wrote that comment must work for them or must of had some baaad advice from a bad agency.

Are you sure that your visa will drop out of the skies because you post a begging message on the Gumtree?

Are you sure that kindly companies and nice agencies will swoop down and give you the sponsorship you require?

Or, when you post your desparation here, will someone with a hotmail account try to charge you extortionate fees to process your paperwork when you are not and never will be eligible for the HSMP scheme?

Or if you are eligible that it might be cheaper to apply directly to the Home Office where the full criteria and process is published?

Just send me your money directly. I am upfront about my services. You won't get your visa but i will spend your cash on beer.

I have to agree, I stumbled upon this forum with the need to see if there are any info on permits, but it's just astonishing how volatile people are. Scary. No wonder the solicitors make so much money.

Man, after reading through all 10 pages, I feel for ya Bluey. It's like banging your head against a wall!

Perhaps this thread should be locked and someone that knows their stuff should write a new one and sticky it, with all the links to criteria for HSMP and 5 year WP's etc. and perhaps some tips on how to look for companies that will sponsor you (I gather the best way is to apply directly). Also (and I don't know how you could be any more clear), spell out how scammers pray on desperate people like this and what to look for and what to avoid etc. I also gather that its pretty strait forward to download the forms and apply yourself; why are so many people paying money to agencies?!

and FFS people, read the whole thread before you beg to Kyle for the golden contact information.

btw, if anyone could give me the contact details for a company that would sponsor me, I'd appreciate it Wink
