I want to defer part of my monthly pay in Jan Feb and Mar for three months, i.e to be paid instead in Apr May and Jun. The amount relates to specific payments for additional tasks I have been performing. There is an advantage to me in dererring that is unrelated to income tax, or to tax of any sort. I would in any case be paying income tax at the full rate in April May and Jun (unless of course I lose my job, but that's not part of the plan). My employer agreed to this arrangement earlier this year. As it is coming up to the relevant time I have reminded them about it, but they are now saying they can't do this because it is a fraud on the inland revenue. They say it will look suspicious and they would be in deep trouble. Is this right? Should they honour the agreement?
