|
|
Hi gumtree,
At the end of this note is an email I received today from the For Sale ad that I put in your site recently.
First, I am very shocked to receive this kind of mail as I can see that it is a 'dishonest' reply and would not want to answer it. It is a typical mail which promises to provide products from africa and entices the buyer to eventually part with their money.
Secondly, I do not understand how this person could have known my email address as I specifically ticked the box for NOT Displaying my email address. I opted for you guys to transfer any requests. Did you transfer this request to me? It seems this person has access to my email address directly.
I am not sure how I am going to get rid of this type of mail but I will mark it as spam. Please, it would be good if you could at least guarantee that personal email addresses are not given out by mistake. Maybe update your website security??
Thanks for letting me know what you think.
S Wolpert

Did you click on the box that says "hide my contact details" or what not?
I've never had this type of problem using Gumtree.co.za |

Hi Gdi,
Yes, I did select the option to Not display my personal details and to have gumtree pass messages to me instead as I knew there was a high incidence of dodgy messages sent and did not want my email address displayed.
I hope this does not open the door for people being taken advantage of.
Cheers, S wolpert |

Hello there,
It sounds like the scammer has used the web form on Gumtree to contact you through your ad. Although the email comes through to you via our servers, they can't see / don't have your email address.
Whatever you do, don't reply to them! |
