relocated temporarily to US based on our family
business that is really booming out there in the US and my kids arrival date is

Hello Sir/Ma,

So pls without a waste of time, I want you to send me
your full name and your contact address, and your
phone number, because there is an assignment for you,
this assignment is what can delay our coming ,its all
about our house furniture and our cars and including
the car that we would be given to you to make
everything easy for you and some house equipments ,
futures of our home and yours too, and 2 cars which
one of the 2 belongs to you and some other things that
we bought like Child care stuff in United States, they
have been given to the shipper to ship to our new
house in the Uk, so the shipper is waiting for the
shipping fee before they can ship them to the new
house. and there is a client of my an INSURANCE
COMPANY in UK WHICH is responsible for all of our
traveling expenses, they have agreed to pay the
shipper the shipping fee via cheque or money order,
so if you are taking up the position, the issue is
that you have to do something on our behalf as your
first assignment and we would pay you for it, this
will hasting our coming and to make everything work
effectively, I will instruct the INSURANCE COMPANY to
issue the payment to you. so you see, you will just
have to cash the money, that is meant to be sent to
the shipper of our cars and the house properties that
we have already bought in United States, although the
money was suppose to be sent to the shipper directly
but the shipper is not in uk and my father-in-law that
could have been of help to cash it by himself is
currently in Belgium now so you will have to take up
this assignment ,I have already talked with my
father-in-law concerning you that you are capable of
doing it, so you have to prove me right in his sight
by being honest and he said he would talk with his
INSURANCE COMPANY in uk to issue you THE FUNDS and
you cash it and send the money to the shipper for the
shipping, so the payment is going to be from his
revenue that they generate for him every month and its
going to be via cheque, so your full name and address,
would be needed and your phone number???? but you
would have to be honest b'cos he said that the amount
that this insurance company is going to pay out is
£5500, so You should take £800 for your preparations,
and for any other thing you might need to put in
places before your coming, so your coming would be
effective the whole money to be sent is £4700.so use
£800 for all your processing and send the rest of his
money through Money Gram or Western union money
transfer, you should search for money gram or western
union outlet near to your area and send the rest of
the money which is £4700 to our shipping agent in
United States for shipping of the rest of our house
properties and the cars including the Child care stuff
and some art works drawing and some decorations we
just purchased for the new house that we are moving
into in your area pls send the rest of the money to
shipper immediately b'cos my Father-in-Law is strict
about his money and he does not joke with his funds at
all .. So you would go on with the processing with
that £800 , and if you now need more money, then he
will send it to you again, that one is like your own
benefit of helping us to do the assignment. so your
full contact name and address and phone number is
needed for the cashier cheque to be written on your
name and get to your hand ? and in case of you not
having a bank account to deposit the money order or
cheque, then maybe you should try and get someone who
you trust that can help you cash the money and send
the person's name and contact address and phone number
alone and the client would issue it to what ever name
you send to me but just be sure of the person that you
trust,
provide everything i ask in time so you can have your
traveling payment in time and by sending the rest to
shipper of our properties in United States so that it
can be shipped to UK in time...okay, so answer without
wasting time .

The cheque will be processed by the bank but it can take many weeks before it is identified as fake because of the clearance and security processes.

In the meantime, they will probably accidentally 'overpay' you and ask for the difference back, or ask you to send them a sum to cover a spurious fee like a work permit or travel fare. Then they'll ask you to do this by Western Union from your account as this will be a genuine transfer of real money from your account which is untraceable.

So they pay fake money in and get real money out, exploiting the difference in the bank realising the payment made is fake.

Here's some info on an ongoing scam which follows this kind of trajectory.

http://boards.gumtree.com/topic48932.html

I've read somewhere else that the reason why they want ID is to help them use it for other scams. It also probably scares the sh*t out of a person if they realise they are being scammed and that the scammer knows where they live.

Report the ad to the Gumtree admin so they can take it down. You have the opportunity to ignore it or to string them along for fun (if you haven't sent them the ID and account info - these are criminals, after all, but if they don't know who you are you can keep expressing your high interest in the role, continually asking them about the terms and conditions, and always ignoring their ever urgent pleas to give them your bank account number. This is known as scam baiting. In fact, some scam baiters even produce fake ID and fake western union slips in order to pursue this activity and wind them up.

see how to do this on the following sites.

How about this for a response.

"Frank,

The job seems great and I am very interested. Please can you tell if the £500 salary be paid to me in GBP sterling or the equivalent in dollars. If so, what is the exchange rate that you will use?

Give my regards to Terry and Faye. I am sorry they lost their mother in that awful way. Was she wearing a seat-belt?".

etc

Just keep ramping up the enthusiasm, the tedious enquiries about the specifics of the job and the level of sympathy you feel for him since his wife's tragic death.

Great. I got a right one here - i've ended up giving beauty advice but haven't heard anything back from this poor tragic woman.

http://boards.gumtree.com/topic51415.html

I've just sent her email onto your employer, Frank, with a plea asking him to help her out.

Here's the text of the message I sent to Frank after receiving a begging letter allegedly from a widow, physically deformed through the ravages of Aids, who is now homeless and is seeking someone to assist her with transfering $12,000,000 of her late husband's estate out of Ghana.

"Hi Frank,

I understand that you are a widower who lost their partner in tragic circumstances and are looking for an au pair and Nanny for your children.

I've received this message from a lady that is looking for accommodation and an income. Perhaps you would like to consider her for this position?

Who knows, with sufficient time and healing, you may find her companionship blossoms into something deeper.

Don't worry about the withering hair and pustulent complexion. I've given her some advice on natural remedies to deal with this.

God bless you, Frank. It's a cruel world without kind people such as yourself.

Bluey"

What do you think? Two hearts beating as one comes to mind.

Well, I'm not holding my breath. I've done my best to play Cupid but perhaps its just too soon in his bereavement for him to contemplate a new companion.

This is what happens,

you send the details, the scammer sends a cheque
you submit the cheque to the bank, it clears in 5 days
you withdraw the funds and send them, the bank rings you 2 weeks later saying that the funds didnt clear and you are over drawn

British banks allow you to draw on cheques after 5 days from US accounts, they should warn youthat although it shows as cleared funds that it may not accually be the case and you will be liable
