I agree with avoid Tiscali - bad speed & customer service.

Talk Talk have a very good value package but not sure about their service.

Freedom2surf were/are excellent, good speeds & good customer service but they've been bought out by Pipex apparently so I don't know if that makes a difference.

So yes it seem quite hard to choose a broadband provider. Mobile phones on the other hand Wink ....

Definitely avoid Tiscali! Ok service till you try to cancel - they are able to still access your money after you cancel the direct debit. Then they are so bloody rude when you politely query it (DOUGLAS THE SCOTTISH CALL SERVICE PERSON - I hope you read this, you are a cheeky twat). After a lengthy letter of complaint to Tiscali I received a reply which was somehow insinuating that the whole sorry mess was my fault and that their staff are professionally trained to deal with "irate customers" which I assume they are deeming me to be. With Homechoice now and no problems so far, just had their wireless installed too and it's great. Would really recommend.
Dell are next on my list - my £900 laptop which I bought 16 months ago and with a 3 year warranty is having problems charging - of course the fault is to be treated as "out of warranty" and they want £325 plus VAT to replace the entire motherboard when it's just the port that is broken. This is on the same day when I received one of their never-ending mailshots offering new laptops (albeit much lower specs) for £249 plus VAT!!! How can they justify this?! Do not buy Dell!!! GRRRRR

I have been in the uk for 4 months now and decided to use tiscali as our boradband provider well so such luck... we were meant to go live on the 26 june and guess what we are still waiting for that moment when we are actually able to get online. after the all the phone calls to them to try and find out what the hell is going on, no one in that overseas call center can give us an honest answer. we were the told by the sales guys to lodge a formal complaint, that should get there tomorrow but who knows how long before they tend to it. question: can we cancel on basis of not recieving a service requested?????? could any one be of help ? Smile

Yes you should be able to cancel if you are not recieving a service. Also I believe you can cancel within 14 days of signing up.

Good luck.

my contract with AOL ends soon, and i was planning to switch to TalkTalk.

I'm aware it's 18 month contract and 40GB monthly allowance [enough for me anyway].
is there any other negative pt? How reliable is there service? customer service?

I tried them for landline plans before, and i'm pleased with them.

TalkTalk's broadband service seems to be running fine, I can't comment on their customer service as I haven't had to use it yet.

DO NOT move to talktalk!! seriously. i mean its a 18 month contract for gods sake! customer support is not existent. they block all p2p and heavily throttle everything else. Stay with AOL, they are pretty good actually.

we have used bulldog communications ltd. for a year and they are the worst company i have EVER had the displeasure of receiving a branded service from. terrible.
the specifics are too long to go into but they obviously don't want to concentrate on their b2c market. this was underlined when they were taken over by cable and wireless and ended their b2c service offer altogether.

perhaps they are ok in certain parts of the uk but london W3, W5 postcodes probably have the same lack of service we have had.

these links offer valuable info on changing isp, something we are in the process of doing after giving up on bullfrog.

I advise you to keep away from AOL. I have the top package whatever that's called, Gold or something. It works fine for my son to play X-Box Live and all that jazz BUT AOL want you to use thier email and their everyting else. They block the ports on email servers so that you cannot use your own domain hooked up to say Outlook or similar.
So when I want to just boot up Outlook and send an email from my own domain email address it slows the thing down so much that you sit there for 20 minutes pressing 'send' over and over. They deny it but it is true.
AOL is very pervasive. I want to change but I don't know to whom. Also AOL customer services is really bad, tear your hair out bad. I rue the day I signed up.

I think the above link is a virus don't try downloading it!

If you are really internet hungry and download loads you are best of with http://www.bethere.co.uk The speed is unbeatable and the price isn't crazy - and best still - if a friend recomends you you'll get a month free and free connection if you connect before May 2007. If you need a friend let me know and I'll get you the free month/connection deal. Very Happy

yes i have been with bethere.co.uk for over a year now and they are great - i recommend them to everyone. great customer service, good price and probably the only truly unlimited adsl broadband provider left. they have only today re-introduced the refer-a-friend scheme - as the above poster says - once you sign up at www.bethere.co.uk send me an email with your customer ID, I then email be and we both get a month free!

Hi,
I am an IT Technician, I do Networking, PC repairs and Firewall.
I get called to peoples home to fix or sort Broadband Problems.
IN MY EXPERIENCE I ADVISE YOU NOT TO GET:

PIPEX
PIPEX HOMECALL
TISCALI
AOL
ORANGE
SKY BROADBAND
TalkTalk

Those above are the worst companies around beacuse of Customer service, you will have to wait up to 45min and you will be lucky to solve the problem.

Low connections, they will set you up with the speed promise to you only on the first months, after that they will drop it down without informing you and your problems will start.

Other what they offer you in the packet is not what you will get, and try close the contact and you will find out waht other people tell me about.

THE BEST BROADBAND SUPPLIERS ARE:

BT
Eclipse Broadband
Be

Good luck if you fallow someone else advise.
Just call me and I will sort the problem out for you.

I foolishly moved from NTL (Virgin Media) to Pipex Homecall and instead of a cable modem via the ethernet connection you get a usb kinda dialup modem with a filter. They claim to run tests on your connection for the first ten days which is to assess the best connection config or something (I found it annoying) anyways because im a heavy user ie; p2p streaming movies playing Vietcong online downloading large documentaries etc etc I need to be connected 24/7 except when I turn off my pc and go to bed. They've gone and put this fucking annoying (scuse my french but is so annoying) cap on my connection, so from 18:00 to 23:00 my speed is PROPER SHIT like we are talking 56k dial-up modem speed. try playing online with that! LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGG it totally kills my p2p software to 0k/b sec and webpages are slow also, when I talked to them about it they claim it will only be temperary. come back NTL all is forgiven!! I thought the whole talk on the phone for 24/7 local calls was a good deal with Pipex and the Broadband also for £29.99 why not say £30!!!!!!!!!!!!! hate that shit. They are WELL hanging on a thread, I've threatened them to buck their ideas up or im off as a customer
Seems to me that BT or Virgin Media might be a better option.

Tough call to find the best broadband deal for sure. Took me loads of time to scan all the stuff you have to consider. One site that helped me out was Top 10 Broadband: http://www.top10-broadband.co.uk - agreed that Pipex may not be the best for most people.

I get really ****'d off with idiots slamming AOL, when I've had it for 6 years and it's never been down ever! All this crap about having to use their browser is *****ks too! IE can be used independently, and no need to use the AOL version.

I've done much research into ISP pricing and their complaints are horrific, so don't ever listen to 'monkeys' - seems the rule here.

I get 7mbs per sec' and only pay £17.99 and NO LIMITS! So compared to all the others and their atrocious services, it needed to be written. If anyone can find a better one, let me know?

ATTENTION TO EVERYONE

PIPEX, PIPEX HOMECALL, TOUCAN

ALL BELONG TO TISCALI

TISCALI AND PIPEX ARE THE WORST BROADBAND, THEY HAD THE MOST COMPLAINS ABOUT SERVICE THAN ANYONE ELSE.

BAD MOVE FOR ANYONE.

SIGN WITH A VERY GOOD BROADBAND COMPANY, GOOD SERVICE AND PRICES.

Talktalk=NoNo

Very bad customer service. When, after much calling and waiting, I ended the account with them, they continued to bill me. When after much calling and waiting I enquired about why I was paying after ceasing the service, they told me that they had no record of my previous call.

So I had actually gone through the entire termination process with their customer service rep and nothing happened and nothing showed up in their computer system.

I'm with Talktalk, the speeds are useless...the customer service is even worse...do not bother yourself with this cruddy little company..without improvements this company will almost certainly go bust.

if you want good broadband, that means - fast, solid, and no fuss

go www.demon.net they were one of the first ISP in the uk and are still one of the best, all of our clients and offices are on demon, so far all problems have been on BT telephones lines, they just work.

They moght be a bit more pricey - £17.99 isn't too bad though and for a fiver more you can get a static IP great!
