Housing benefit - Can't find decent privately rented accomm.

Oh and I am quite happily housed in a detached house with a lovely landlord who acepted me as a person and preferred her rent via housing benefits as it is guranteed especially as I had my own rent in advance and deposit.

put a wanted ad up i was inundated with responses immmediately be careful about whp you pick and see but i now have a nice 1 bedroom in the area i wanted with all the amenities i asked for withn out the credit check etc... good luck!

Hello all, (sensible, intelligent, clean mouthed people that is!)

From reading the posts on this forum, I at first assumed it was for people to discuss the hardships of finding a property when in receipt of Housing benefits, whatever the reason. However it seems that a lot of you people on here (not all of you mind) have lost sight of that and turned it into a place for disrespecting those who for whatever unfortunate reason need to receive assistance with rent and maybe deposits.

I just wanted to say that I agree with the intelligent people on here who know that not all people in receipt of housing benefit are "scum, junkies and unreliable".
Those of you who assume this are narrow minded bigots who obviously don't understand that everybody is different and not everybody should be tarred with the same brush. I see you all as sheep who cannot come up with ideas for yourselves and instead decide to follow the opinions and perceptions of other narrow minded bigots without any true basis for this.

You all place such a huge amount on the fact that you have university degrees and own or run your own businesses but that really doesn't count for anything when you are so foolish and small minded.

I think you should all take a step back and take a look at yourselves before you decide to come online and disrespect and judge others less fortunate that yourselves.

Back to the real reason for this forum I am a single mum who is in receipt of housing benefit, like many of you I too have been looking for a 3 bedroom property in or around the harrow area, but to no avail as most landlords do not want to take on a low income family. I am on a council rent deposit scheme and am able to provide a months rent upfront if desired, but just the mention of HB is enough to make landlords run for the hills!!!!

Does anybody have any ideas on a solution to this?

I don't know what area you are from or what kind of people you may have met to give you this perception, but in my opinion you are not far of the trash barrel yourself. Maybe you should consider shooting yourself in the head?!
