So I'm from the USA. Have a Blue card and am coming over to England in a few weeks. I'm going with a special job placement program but I have a feeling they are going to stick me in some little boring town. So I'm thinking of looking for my own job. Can you guys recommend anything? I'm a fairly good looking female if that helps at all :/ and have some pretty decent job experience (office, tv,etc...nothing in food yet)

It isn't difficult to find a random pub job, and you can meet some top people working bars, i've been doing it for for 4 years now, (having applied for a random pub job) and I'm now an assistant bar manager. the main thing we look for when recruiting is personality, if you've got that you can't go wrong. Try and find out where you're going to be going, and start looking at the area, if you can't find much, ask again on this site, someone's bound to know the area vaguely!

Do Caring - it pays well, you live and eat for free and it is rewarding as you help older or disabled people.

There are many agencies that does this, don't go private - agencies give you different people to go to, so if you don't like the person you just move to another person. they match you up to someone with your kind of personality as far as they can...

It's great as you can take time off for weeks or months to travel and start working again when you want to, or work for a few months, then have a break as long as you want etc.

Very flexable and pay is not bad!

Good luck!!
