It depends what you want to get. I personally did the ACCA CAT (Certified Accountant Technician) exams over CIMA. Theyre pretty much the same qualification but in CAT you need a years practical experience to get the qualification. CAT is very handy if you wish to go to study the professional scheme as you get exemptions from the first few exams and you get these automaticly. You do not need the years experience to get these exemptions. If you look at www.accaglobal.com it explains more. There are plenty of nite and day courses around that do the ACCA CAT course and these generaly cost anything from €300 - €500 per paper. But if you get a job in accountancy your employer will generaly pay for these exams and you can also get study leave, generaly 1 and a half to 2 days paid exam leave.
If you are looking to go into this area in a big way I would highly recommend the CAT course. Its recognized everywhere all employers know it, its very easy to get wage increases ect as you pass the exams. There is two exam sessions a year so you could be a qualified CAT in a little over a year. A qualifed CAT is worth around €32,000 in Ireland but not sure about anywhere else. Its a great thing to have on your CV and it isnt all accountancy theres a mixture of business, accountancy, law and IT in the course so it realy gives you a good grounding if youre not 100% sure what you want to do
Hope that helps |
