I live in Acton which has big australian community - but the main aussie places in London seem to be earls court and shepherds bush. I don't know why, but the aussies seem to positively avoid us brits, and my female friends and I have had very frosty receptions from aussie girls in particular |

i find nationalities tend to group together, i worked in a large hotel, the english, spanish, south african an polish staff all had their little gangs.
most cities have an australian bar, but you would benefit more if you mixed with other nationalities |

Hey Kyles,
Why leave Aus to come to England if you want to hang out with Aussies.
See a long way to come just to hang out with your own. |

I guess it's not a matter of nationalities but a matter of language. I work in a multicultural environment (in fact I have colleagues from around 15 nationalities here) and haven't seen the Kiwis or Aussies grouping with themselves but the French, Italian and German do. |

To be honest, i for one don't really get it - I mean, if you were learning a new language, and had fears of not being able to communicate, it would make sense, but with London being the origin of your linguistic and cultural roots the Australian/Antipodean tendency to group together seems at the least quite xenophobic.
I mean, in practice if the people are the same, all you've done is trade away a climate worth having, for nothing. |

Yes we do group together. It's almost unavoidable. In the end we all like to whinge about the weather, the customer service, the public transport, the expense of living...
You'll find kiwis and aussies outnumbering the 'locals' in the following north London areas: Dollis Hill, Willesden Green (big time), Golders Green (more kiwis and gradually more saffas there), West Hampstead (usually more extablished ones because it's a bit more pricy), Brent Cross.
In the south: Putney, Fulham, Wimbledon, Southfields ('saffa-fields'), Hammersmith, Acton, Ealing, Richmond (those who can afford it), and even as far south as the Claphams.
Just look do a keyword search under one of the accommodation subheadings for 'saffa' or 'kiwi' or 'aussie' and you will get the idea. |

| seems to me you will never really learn about a country if you just group together in your national or ethnic groups |
